Engine management- Detonation under boost

Folks I am new to the forum and own a D16A9. It doesn't have an o2 sensor so does it mean that I have a knock sensor?
And wouldn't this knock sensor assist in me not denoting under boost?

why doesnt your car have an o2 sensor? It should have one, or its going to affect the way it runs. If youre detonating under boost, that knock sensor is going to help minimally. What turbo/fuel setup are you running, and whens the detonating occuring? Is your ignition timing retarded any?

i dont think any D series motor came with a knock sensor. the current D series motors dont.

are you carbed or fuel injected? D16A came with either one back in those days.

I have a D16A9 EFT it came stock with no catlyic convertor, and well no o2 sensor. On the exhaust manifold you can actually see the opening in the heat shield where the o2 sensor should have been and on the manifold it self the port for the o2 sensor is actually blocked (not by someone it look stock as if the factory did it)
I am preparing for my turbo setup. I decided on an FMU for extra fuel pressure in boost. So I have not set it up as yet..

i HIGHLY reccommend getting an aftermarket O2 sensor and air/fuel monitor... it's imperative for tuning a turbocharged car, especially for motors not normally equipped for turbocharging.

I would have thought that any fuel injected moter would have an o2 sensor...

A knock sensor will let you know right before things go horribly wrong, so I second the recomendations for an A/R meter. A little one with the rows of LEDs should suffice.

I was just going with the Autometer one. But if there is something less expensive, hey tell about it..

I live in the uk and also have this problem! I own a rover 216 gti with a honda d16a9 eingine but since my car is pre 1993 it does not have a cat which means no lambda sensor. This limits me to tuneing as all ecu upgrades need a o2 sensor to work! Can any one help?

uh... how about buying an o2 sensor?

P.S. The knock prevention systems that i'm familiar with dont 'tell' you anything. If your engine detonates it retards your ignition to prevent further detonation. probably wouldn't do too much good on a turbo, since that'll just increase your exhaust temp and give more powah to the turbo. I recommend the A/F meter from http://www.dawesdevices.com

The A/F ratio gauge using a single wire OEM O2 sensor is not very accurate at all, and should only be used as a tuning aid only. The color of the plugs will be the finale judge. On where the fuel pressure should be set at, rather then what the gauge is telling you. It could very easily blow an engine, just by using it...

Some peeps will tell you to save your $$$$$ because of the above mentioned. Using a Wide Band O2 or going by Exhaust Gas Temps, is about the only way to tell, what the actual ratio is.

There are few companies out there, that say they can mod the AM gauge to make it a lot more accurate.

Honda began using knock sensors with OBD-II and no it will not save your motor from boost.
