Background:
I just reinstalled an alternator and replaced a battery
after they both failed on me in my wifes car. I can hear
my belt squeeling at startup buti know that stems from
me not tensioning the alternator well enough. It was
sitting for near a month until I could swap new parts.
The Real Problem:
After I had replaced the alternator and battery I hopped
in the car to take a spin around the block and make sure
everything was in good condition. That is when I noticed
that after first gear I have and extreme RPM drop AFTER
first gear. I tried to high rev the engine before shifting
to second, and even tried to high rev and switch from
first to third, but both are the same. I will shift at 3-4k
and as soon as the clutch engages the RPM's drop and
the car sputters to a stop.
Reverse is fine, first is fine, but I cannot keep within the
RPM line on second plus even if I hold the accelerator. I
am worriedsince this is our only car and my wife is losing
days at work because of it, can anyone help us?
