Fuel Tank

I have a 92 civic.the problem is i have a bunch of caked up rust in the tank.it hasnt wen't through and looks like i left the cap off is there any way possible to clean it.

i would recommend getting a new tank.

i would get rid of that tank....a new tank is a lot cheaper than a new engine...

its a hassle to clean a tank really good. then you gotta worry about all the rust and the damage it might have done. then you gotta worry about fixing it. its a hassle. if you got the time then clean it out and fix it. if not then buy a new one.

of course this depends on how heavily its rusted

It is not really that bad and I have time.I was just thinking is a certain kind of solution like a fuel treatment or part cleaner.I have taken the tank off before it is sort of easy the tank goes for like 130 bucks and any money i can save around the hoiliday

There is no easy or cheap solution. You either replace it, or take your chances of having to pay even more $ for the damage it will do. If you're going to take your chances, NEVER let your tank go ¼ of a tank or less full. You let it get low once and say good bye, to at the very least, your fuel pump. I had an oldsmobile that had sediment in the gas tank, when I let the tank go ¼ of the way full; the fuel pump over heated and died (happened a few times because I was dumb).

thats why he needs to drops the tank and clean it throughly removing everythign in there and all the rust.

It's sort of like a gravy I will remove the tank,and make sure I get rid of all rusty material .I think i will have to put like parts cleaner in it,swish it around for a while then clean out with a shop rag ,then do the same thing but with gas.Does that sound like it might work.

that will work, but, it will still rust in time. rust grows like barnacles on rocks.

So it is better to replace because i would have to
do it again in the future.

new tank....end of discussion! I wouldn't mess w/ the old rusty one....that's just me tho

Use a new tank... And search if you can use a plastic from a late model...
