95 Blazer ignition switch oddball torx screws

[I originally was going to append this to my thread "95 Blazer accurate wiring schematic", but decided it might be worthy of it's own thread. I need to replace my ignition switch, as do many others it seems from past threads, and finding the socket to fit the anti-theft screws which hold it on is extremely difficult. That other thread leaves off where I am about to go buy a switch and try to find a socket for the screws...]

Wow! What a madhouse! I went to the local mall (gulp!) to visit Sears to find an E3 or E4 torx socket for the two ignition screws on this 95 Blazer. Good thing my diesel dodge is 4x4; I had to park on a snow-plow covered median strip. A Christmas shopper nightmare... One hour later, it was determined that this Sears did not have any torx (female) sockets other than a Lisle set with E6 being the smallest...

On to Napa, where Darrin sells me a new ignition switch for $115 (considerable discount) and it is even made in the USA!!! He doesn't have anything smaller than an E6 socket either, but he calls around and leaves a message with a local SnapOn dealer, too. I then check ORielly's, AutoZone, and Advance Auto and another hardware store. No luck. The day is about shot, too... :banghead:

But there's more than one way to skin a cat!! :smokin:

Fed up, I drive home and scrounge up a couple of el-cheapo 1/4 drive sockets, mix a batch of JBWeld, fill the sockets with it (stuff a small piece of aluminum foil in first to keep the JB from filling the square driver hole), and then duct tape and zip-tie them in place over the heads of those two pain-in-the-arse male torx screws that hold the ignition switch on.

It hasn't been 24 hours yet (only about 18), and the JBWeld isn't at full strength, but this method worked beautifully. The screws came right out. One even pulled cleanly from the not-quite-set JB Weld leaving a nearly perfect socket to replace them, though I will likely use regular screws.

Despite the overnight/24 hour set time, this method was considerably faster and cheaper than trying to find the impossible-to-get correct socket.

Don't know if anyone else is interested, but that's my home-brewed solution. Maybe it will help someone else. Merry Christmas!

Well I lost your old tread.
But here is the wiring you was asking for.
If you still need it.

"E3 or E4 torx socket for the two ignition screws"

Found a cheap set at Princess Auto. It was 14 bucks. Starts at e3 and goes up 10 sizes or so. Not too sure if you would have them in the US but there are lot here in Canada.
