I'm buying my buddies 91 z24, and he says that the tourque converter soliniod is bad, and needs to be replaced. Have any of you guys run accross this problem?

I would say "do a search," but you spelled solenoid wrong, so you'd probably get nothing.
FYI its a Torque Converter CLUTCH LOCKUP Solenoid, or more commonly the TCC Solenoid. I replaced mine in my old Z24, the parts about $15 and takes less than 30 minutes if you know what you're doing.
On that, here's a walkthrough complete with parts list, clearly defined steps, little tricks, and pictures:

Pay attention to the tip about jacking up the motor to get at the bolts near the bottom of the transmission valvle assembly cover, the frame is most deffinitely in the way. Take the top bolts out first, then jack up the motor, get the bolts out, then set the motor back down. Oh yeah, and when you splice in the red wire, remember that the one on your car has probably turned brown after all these years.
G'luck

If you don't know what a part's called, its always a bitch to figure out how to fix it. Good luck with the repair, and DO NOT just unplug the sensor on top of the motor like people here tell you to. It disables the lockup, shoots your highway mileage to shit, and is just plain lazy.
