Broke Back Tailgate

I cant open my tailgate and I took to bed liner off it and it seems that the right side wire connecting the handle to the latch is no longer attatched. How do I get inside the gate to reattatch it? Please tell me this is a do-it-yourself job and not a take it to the dealer for $$$ job. Thanks!!

What Year??? Easy job. If the plastic retainer is broke on one side got ot the dealer and get a replacement. You can reach inside the handle from the front and pop the old retainer out and pop in the new one. Then take the tailgate off and flip around until the rod appears and reinstall. If that does not work just pop out the other rod and remove the three bolts on the backside of the handle and remove the handle. Then you might be able to fish for the other rod. Let us know if you need more info....

the clip can be found at a parts store that has a good selectin of HELP parts. it can be replaced through the latch hole with the trim bezel removed. the bezel snaps in at the top, is held on the sides by double sided tape and at the bottom by two small dowels facing down. the trick is not breaking the dowels (i did) the bezel lists for $18 sold to me for $13.50 u.s.
