I have a 2000 ls1 trans am. It is an automatic with 34,000 miles. Low miles i know. I don't have the ram air, but my question is if i get the ram air hood with the slp box, and like some flowmaster exhaust, and some sticky tires what do you think i will run in a quater mile?

Doubtful the 'Ram Air' hood and airbox will make much of a difference.

Mid 13's most likely. Until you get a higher stall converter on that auto it will be a dog off the line.

Not much without the stall.

Hey Mr. Luos i watched your video and it was prety good, but what motor do u have now?

Mr. Luos

The video was before I took the LS1 out.

New motor is a 402 cubic inch iron block LSx.
56 cubes over stock, MUCH better heads, MUCH bigger cam, much better intake, etc....
Completely forged internals.

how about your 1/4 time Luos.. ?? how is your girl on the track???

and also, how would be my girl? around 15 seconds??

My best time would be a 12.8 at 113 MPH. That is corrected though for my altitude.
My actual time was a 14.0 at 105 MPH. Since I race at Bandimere Raceway in Denver, I race 5800 feet above sea level. Very thin air. I give you the corrected number so you have an idea what it could run at sea level.
Of course, this is before my latest round of mods.
I bet mid 11's at 125 MPH now at sea level.

Your car....lower 14's would be my guess. Right around 100 MPH.

Grats on the car. Don't bother with the ram air hood if you're looking for power. It looks real cool but the SSRA ram air kit is alot cheaper. The cheapest bolt-ons that'll make a little power for you are the following:

Lid. You'll gain 7-10 rwhp for as little as $75. Get any brand you like because a lid is a lid.

SSRA or FTRA. You won't see a gain on the dyno but for about $200 you'll gain 1 (maybe 2) tenths in the quarter mile.

Ported TB. You can buy one but for about $75-100 you can probably find a place to port your stock one as well. Good for about 7 rwhp.

cutout / catback. Avoid flowmaster! cutouts are as cheap as $30 and catbacks are anywhere from $275-700. My personal favorites on the less expensive side is Hooker and TSP rumbler. If you have money to spend then nothing beats GMMG! You'll gain another 7-10 rwhp here as long as you stay away from Flowmaster (flows the worst and gives the least gains).

Those are all good bolt-ons to get you started. The real difference makers however are LT headers and a torque converter. The problem is money. Even the bang for your buck brands will not be cheap. Pacesetter LT headers and ORY for example will still run you $525.00 + another $300-500 for a tune which you may or may not need (some cars run very lean or rich after headers). The TCI SSF3500 torque converter will run $475 + $50 for a tranny cooler. Shift kit is another $120 and install on all that can run $400-500.

With just the lid, bullet muffler (dynomouth setup), ported TB and SSRA I ran 13.2 @ 105 with a 99 A4 Formula. Stock I ran 13.6 @ 103. With LT headers and a stall I was deep in the 12's and trapping 109-110.

Good luck and grats again on the new ride!

well, l just got new muffler, actually l was planning to change my exhaust system. l asked the guy, they got an advertiesemen of magnafol performance exhasut blah blah. and l said man lets do magnafol, how much is it.. he said, man for GM cars, flowmaster is the best.. better sound and better performance.. he is a really good mechanic and has been doing this job over 20 years. even the magnafol would be much much expensive and he would make more money but he didnt let me, he said flowmaster is the best for camaro, firebirds..

and l just neded to replace my muffler and l did.

I am not going to search for the Flowmaster flow charts.
But in comparison to other mufflers, the Flowmaster is VERY close to the lowest flowing muffler.
They tend to sound okay, but they don't flow well.

They aren't terrible. And they sound okay.

You won't notice a power difference with your car. Really hard to notice a 2-3 HP difference on a street car.
On a car like mine, I am trying to get everything I can outta it, I am going for the best flowing exhaust I can find. Sound is second thought, performance first.

Not saying mine is a track only car or any better than anyone elses. I am actually using mine for mostly street use as well. Just got a thing for getting the most out of my hard work.

man..

my wife just asked me what re u doin on AF and l said l told the guys that l am reaching 50 mph. at the first gear and they dont believe me. and she said 50 mph at the first gear?? l said yeah, she said you re wrong, thats not possible.. (by the way she is working for ford motor company and she knows many things about cars) and l took her out and told her, go and you try.. man, she got on the car and l got out, MAAAAANNNNNNN, MY CAR has very deep and aggressive crazy sound.. l never got out of my car and let somebodyelse drive. so l didnt know that my car had that sound.. she was 1000 feet away from me, and accelerating normally, lwas hearing that deep soound like right next to me.. a corvette was right behind of her l swear to god, l couldnt even hear corvette at all, just my girl.. man it has like 500 hp. sounds like that.. and she came back and l said what happened, she said, well, you were right, it reached to 50 mph.. l still cant understand, how, but it happened..

:)

Magnaflow is an awesome catback. I would highly recommend it. It flows very well, is stainless steel and sounds very refined.

Hooker catback is another great choice for you. It's a little less expensive, has nicer looking tips (IMO) and sounds very good. Downside is that it's not stainless steel so it will eventually rust. You could also just get the hooker aerochamber muffler instead of the entire catback. That'll give you most of the HP gains, improve the sound and keep the stock pipes which are 2.75" stainless steel and mandrel press bent.

But I still would lean towards the magnaflow catback personally. Good luck.
