Anyone reading a paper in the UK knows about this recent stupid trend for bored younger people to do.

Some idiots even slapped singer Mylene Klass, (they dumped fries over her head). Personally, if I met Ms. Klass, I would behave better.

Do you think happy slapping is just dumb kids, harmless fun or a trend that it out of control?

I can see it starting in England (no guns), but if much slapping occured in the US, then inevitably, some slappers would end up with a .38 caliber enema.

Happy slapping is the term used to describe a recent fad whereby a person, or group of teenagers slap, strike or even attack a stranger (usually women or lone men) while an accomplice films the assault using any form of video recording device, most commonly as camera phone or a smart phone. It is thought to have first become popular in South London, but it has now spread across Europe and North America.

Although the concept of filming a crime is an old one, the ease and general availability of video cameras in mobile phones means that such attacks need not be planned carefully beforehand and are more easily watched and circulated afterwards. Some political and media commentators have alleged that the craze is inspired by television programmes such as Jackass and Dirty Sanchez. Others have attempted to have the issue viewed and treated as a moral panic which unfortunately inflates its importance by creating a national scare.

Happy slapping can often become more violent than a mere slap. Sometimes the assault is performed with other crimes, such as mugging and rape. Variations of the "happy slap" have been reported in Northern Ireland, where groups of youths have filmed vicious attacks on firecrews. Two youths were convicted for setting fire to a man during a "happy slap" in 2005. On 8 June 2005, it was reported that a 17-year-old girl was shot with an air rifle and filmed in Wortley area of Leeds, Britain. On 18 June 2005, British police arrested three 14-year-old boys for the suspected rape of an 11-year-old girl who attended their school. Authorities were alerted when school staff saw footage from the students' mobile phones.

In Sweden on 5 June 2005, the day before the Swedish National day, there were articles in Swedish newspapers that groups of left-wing activists (AntiFascist Action, Revolutionary Front, etc) had commited attacks against neo-nazis which had been filmed. In one of the attacks commited on a crowded subway station the attack was so brutal witnesses thought the nazi-skinhead had died but he survived with headwounds.

Another example of the undisciplined youth of today. I see someone (a victim) will end up killing one of these kids for assaulting them. makes me more and more wanting to have a stun gun to retaliate.

I hope the authorities catch these misfits and charge them to the full extent of the law, fuck it that they are kids or below 18 years of age. You do the crime you do the time.

Why would you carry a knife on you? If anyone fucks around I'll just knock them flat on their face. I've been in situations where if I had a weapon on me, I would of used it, and probably got done for murder, or attempted murder.

For awile i seriously carried a stud girdle off of my nova around with me, course i had a reason for it. Carrying a wepon more often than not is a method of deturance. You don't happy slap someone carrying around a stud girdle. :screwy:

Bleed - Really? I've never heard of it or seen it happen. Given, I don't actually watch for it, but I've never actually SEEN it.

Jonno - Why? Well, first because it comes in very handy for those "I wish I had a knife to (unscrew/cut/pop) this, whitch happens to me more often then you'd think for whatever reason.

Second, because there are dumbass trio's of Indians (No offense) who walk around and, quite frankly, have nothing better to do than collect welfare checks and fight people. And personally, if it was a 1 on 1 fight, it wouldn't call for a knife. BUT, if it was 3-5 on 1, I'd consider using it if I was gettig beaten down by guys with baseball bats. Which, to point out, has happened to someone in broad daylight on Main Street here ;)

This is a perfect example of nipping something in the bud. These kids/whoever that are doing it should be come down on, hard, to send the message that it's unacceptable - assault is assault.

I made the mistake of showing my friend at school this thread. I ended up busting his lip for him.

I don't have the best temper, but I will try to choke the person who just slaps me in public for entertainment purposes. When someone does something like that to a person, i am pretty damn sure they will have the energy to beat the living crap out of the kid.

I agree, like I said, I have my ways of dealing with slappers, but someone is gonna smack a cop or it's going to escalate untill one of them dies and the public will be ridiculed because it was "Just a fun little game gone horrably wrong" Yada yada yada.

Technically, if it's one hit, then it is self defense if he assaulted you. If they have a weapon or are in a group and you fear your life is in immediate dangr, then it is justifiable to use lethal force. BUT, if you have to go with option B, make it as clean as possible. IE, if you have to pull a knife, after you get them to back off or, in the event they don't, put them down/out, don't continue to stab them in the neck. You'll get Murder 2 if you go beyond necessary limits. ALSO, it all depends how the court sees it. 1 judge may see using a knife against 4 people as a necessary action, while another judge may say the exact opposite.

Now THAT is fucked up cuz if you're a metalist, gothic, alternative rocker or simply have a leather jacket, spikes or black boots on you the foreigners of sweden and probably other places will call you a Nazi and might even beat you down just like that, cuz they're in control, no one, authority or other people say or do shit about it.

yep, living in london i've seen a lot of this first hand. it started off with somalies who decided assaulting innocent people on the bus was fun.

no offence to somalies but they are from a country that's in such a bad state the rest of the world has left it to self desruct, some of my friends visited the country last year and said that from their landing point they were transported by pick-up, everyone armed with ak47s and 3 men on the back with belt-fed machine guns in case of an ambush attack. i think some of this could have something to do with how violent some of them are.

a while ago i was walking to my mate's house when i saw three guys, all smaller than me, two on one side of the pavement an one near the road, i walked through the group an as i did the one near the road held up a camera phone, aimed at me. the other two moved in towards me.

one slapped me accross the face an laughed, but though shit kid, not today. i grabbed him round the throat an proceeded to teach him a lesson.

now im normally quite controlled but this pissed me off an the bastard's face met my fist a few times, after watching his head spin i dropped him, he kinda stumbled an fell over.

i chased down the one with the phone an took it off him, it seemed like he was gonna stop me but saw me raise me fist an with a "Oh fuck..!!" he dropped the phone an ran off. down the drain (literally) went the phone.

my mate on the other hand, who's house i was en route to, had a similar thing, again near his house. except he found the pricks two roads away from him an the one that thought punching him was funny ended up in hospital with a broken nose an jaw. he met my friend's baseball bat.

although he was "punished" two days after the slap-incident the police deemed it self-defence because they wanted to show happy slappers what could happen to them.

i've seen the videos, scary stuff, i can try an get them so you guys can see how fucked up it is, it just pisses me off that people think this is fun. they need to be taught a lesson. it's stupid. it was deemed "an epidemic" at its peak an you could face a 6-year sentence in jail if you were caught doing it.

luckily it's ended now, hopefully for ever.

Intimidation is a more powerful weapon than you think. Your situation is a great example, in that you display what you can do to one and even though you said there were 2 more which could have probably taken you down eventually (No offence) they ran because they new what you could do to THEM individually.

Another good situation - My friend is caught off guard, outnumbered 4 on 1, by guys a few years older than him. even though they could have easily disarmed him, the fact my friend had a knife made them run the other way. Fast.

Intimidation is more that people fear what might happen to THEM rather than what could happen to the group.

yea, if they had the chance i think they could've easily put me on the floor and at first i felt a bit shaky. the adrenaline kicks in a before you knoe it the first one had made my hand hurt, but adrenaline's like that. if i went for them one at a time i probably could'a beaten them all down but they saw what happened to the first one an were too pussy to help their friend.

i've seen them a few times after the incident, either they're somewhat scared of my or they just happen to be doing some casual sprinting whenever im around.

im not a scary guy, i dont look like im gonna beat people up. i think they just weren't expecting it.

i have a mate that looks rough, lots of facial scars an that, but people just think they can be the big man if they start a fight. they think they'll come off better an everyone'll respect them, they're always proved wrong.

happy slapping is about a power trip. they like to imtimidate people because it makes them feel like the gangster they want to be. it's pathetic.
