Name this part...'92 Cavalier (pics)

Hi, I'm trying to take off the ignition cylinder/switch. Here is the part that is bugging me:

I know theres a 'C' clamp that loosens everything behind it. I have that off. But how do I get this spider thingy off? Please helP!!

I am not sure, but have you tried a hub puller?

It appears to be threaded, I doubt a hub puller would be his number one choice of things.

So you are trying to take out the ignition cylinder the whole thing you can undo from underneath the ignition and the back the while thing slided in and out there is a pressure pin that releases the whole thin in one kinda like on a vacume hose the metal part i didn't quite understand your question but i think i did if i'm wrong getback to me i do have the answer once i know exactlly what you want to do

If I'm reading my book correctly you dont have to take that off.And it sounds like there isnt pressure pins when you have a key\switch combo like you have.
1)detach neg bat cable
2)remove tilt lever if equipped remove upper and lower colum covers
3)remove 2ea ign switch retaining screws
4)detach ign sw from steering colum housing and unplug elec conn.
Warning if you have airbags use appropriate steps
Warning #2 I'm just going by book and on my s-10 this same company did not give good ign sw instructions

hi guys, thanks all for the replies. I couldnt figure it out. Basically, somone had tried to steal my car, jamming a screwdriver into the ignition hole. Well my key no longer fits. With my car, it doesnt have the ignition cylinder seperate, it has the switch/cylinder combo, anti-theft thing I guess. I dunno, but a brand new one is $400. Pfft, like I'd pay that. I'm content with a used one for $100. Anyways, thanks all for the replies. I just had it towed to Midas where they'll fix it for me.

It appears to be threaded, I doubt a hub puller would be his number one choice of things.In indeed it does need to come off, I'd disagree. In the last picture you can clearly see that the shaft has splines on it and that the threads have a smaller diameter then the splines. A hub or wheel puller is what you use to remove that.
