I put some nerf bars on my 95 4 door blazer, and i like how they look, but they seem to collect lots of snow/slush that builds up on the front, rear, and rear inside by the rear doors to the point that you have to knock it off to make the door clear it.

anyone else have this problem?

I have (had) nerf bars on my Dodge Ram. They are a waste of money in my opinion as far as function, though they (did) look good for awhile. They are too thin and weakly mounted to provide any side-impact protection, so appearance is their main function with entry/exit assistance being secondary.

The truck came with them from Texas. Iowa's winter road salt killed them in one year because one of the plastic endcaps was missing and, though chromed on the outside, the insides were raw meat for corrosion. Many have similar problems where the plastic insert for the flattened step area does not seal and there is an actual cutout as opposed to an indented area..

Running boards like I have on my wife's Blazer are much more practical and provide better lower body protection and entry/exit function. They, too, will provide a place for snow and slush to build-up if you don't bruch or scrape them off periodically, though.

The best thing about nerf bars or running boards, is seeing the look on the old broad's face when she pulls up inches away from you in Walmart's parking lot and tries mightily to ding your door with hers... Big mistake lady! You really buggered up your own door, didn't you?

my main reason for installing them is for something to kick the snow/dirt off of my shoes before i get in, i hate tracking crap on my carpet. looks were secondary, but had i forseen the snow issue i wouldve gotten the molded running bars instead.

I drive a semi 12 hours per night and am in and out at least 50 times. Then I go plow snow with my diesel Dodge. Again, in and out of the snow. I know exactly what you mean about the snow and mud... JC Whitney used to sell a thick vinyl/rubber floor covering (fits like carpet) to replace the factory carpet. I had it in my old chevy K-20 and it worked great in a 4x4.

I climb in my seat leaving my feet dangling and them clap them together a few times. It helps. Teach your kids to do it, too. But the best thing is Husky Liners for your floor and diligent shop-vac use to get the water they might miss.

Many truckers like to mount flat brushes bristle-side-up on our steps, which work really well, too. :smokin:

My big K-30 crew cab (single-rear-wheels) with 35" tires has stirrup steps which I really like. No mud or snow build-up and highly functional for climbing that high. Just another option...

Have-em, Like em... While I don't use them myself because of my height, shorter people who ride with me tend to use them.

As I live in PA and lots of salt during the winter, they started peeling. (They came with the truck) So over the summer I ground all the rust off, used POR15 on them, then used bed liner on them... Gave it a nice effect... Don't worry about rusting too much anymore. Also did the frame in bedliner material too...:)

i have mudflaps, and no, they dont help,

I got them from ebay actually, but they were the only listing i found, for stainless steel, didnt want black, cause they rust more/faster.

easy to install, drill a couple holes,

thats where i got them, 150, plus 50 shipping.

I bought my truck and the aluminin nerfs were already on there.I like the looks of them and they provide something to kick the snow off of your shoes. If you are going to buy a set,get stainless or aluminim. The chrome or painted ones are a joke and will rust through in a couple of years. Also mud flaps are a good investment and do help with lower protection.Just remember when you put flaps on,keep them even or stick out a little with the outside of your tire. Also make sure they hang down abit. Most people over look this and say they don't work.

well, i didnt install my mudflaps, there were there when i bought it. but as far as im concerned every truck/suv should have them, they do help for other things, but i was just saying they didnt help my snow nerf bar situation. ill try and get some picks of it on here soon so you can see what i mean.

You need to host it on a server somewhere and then use then click the POST REPLY (not the quick reply) button then use the link button and type the url of the server where you are hosting the picture.

heh, yea, im sure they did, but i dont know how to use it, nor do i care enough to go through the hassle of figguring it out at this time. i got 3 pics that are 135kb, 153kb, 150kb, just showing the snow buildup i was talking about.

i really dont wanna sign up for something free on the web, which would probably be faster/easier, but then i would get put on about 100 spam mail lists.

dont suppose you could host them for me could you? or is it to much of a hassle.

i use the internet for gaming, and a couple forums. im not into the whole web page thing, frankly i really dont have the time to make one, nor anything interesting enough to put on one;)

Ok, ill view your no response as a negative. i went to img station, so here you go.

took pics with my camera phone, and if there isnt lots of light, thier not the greatest quality, and i live in michigan where the sun never shines in the winter. theres not as much snow on them here as they usually get, but it got warm and it all melted, ill get new better pics when it snows again.

ok, apparently they wont let me post the pics on this site, so your gonna have to go to thier site to view them, here is a link that should work.

Seems like the snow and Ice like to camp out on your rear step thingy, How about a rear-front mudflap for the winter only, then remove it in the spring? Just a thought?
