Need help deciding on a color scheme

I picked up a Revell '06 Mustang, and was curious as to what people thought I should do on the interior color scheme. I'm going for a throwback look, and the exterior will be a white base (a Cobra Colors Fire Pearl "Snowfrost Pearl) with either a single thick blue racing stripe, or duel blue racing stripes. I'll take opinions on that also, as well as where I should get the blue from. I'm not sure if I should go for another Fire Pearl, or Tamiya.

But the real reason I have this thread is to ask about the interior. I dunno what to do... full tan, white and blue to match the exterior, or something else. I want that throwback look, like I said, so I'm open to almost anything. I look forward to hearing your ideas on both the interior and exterior! Thanks.

Since you're in throwback mode w/modern color interpretation, I'd say make the stripes a bright blue pearl...Fire Pearl not necessary; Tamiya Mica Blue or Metallic Light Blue would be great against the pearl white.

Interiors on the white w/blue stripe Shelbys were almost always black. I'd go w/a basic black interior w/some solid blue accents that closely match the blue metallic stripes. Perhaps black seats w/blue centers, blue indentation on the door panels, perhaps blue racing harnesses. That kind of thing.

EDIT: Also, looking at those eBay shots, I think I'll mimic the dash, also, with that silver on the dash and wood around the steering wheel.

Good rims for it would be either Torque Thrusts (like Pegasus T's) or similar-the wheels in Revell's 63 Corvette CV or custom rims in the newly reissued '69 Shelby or in the '59 Corvette 2 in 1.

Pegasus Hella's would look good, they come in two sizes and both have knockoffs. They're a modern interpretation of Halibrands.

Side stripes would look good. Most of the new Mustangs do have a wide swath of silver on the dash (it's optional and improves the dash appearance 1000%). Look at some on Ebay to see it. Wood rim wheel would be cool.

The interior will be black with blue inserts, but now I'm figuring out the best way to paint the exterior. I have Cobra Colors Black Magic primer, so I don't have to put on a basecoat, but I think I have to mask off the stripes (will blue painter's tape strip? The Tamiya crap I have strips paint like nobody's business) with a strip-wide of tape, spray the white, and then basically reverse what is masked, exposing two stripes of black. Then I'll spray the blue.

Or is there an easier way?

Sounds like you have the right sequence. Easier? Certainly- a regular blue pearl (Tamiya or Cobra Colors) sprayed over the white; you only mask the stripes once :wink: :biggrin: What you ordered will be fine, just one extra masking step and if you do it right there won't be much of a tape line and the two colored areas should be on the same level...once buried in clear it will be impressive.

You could paint the whole body Snowfrost, then apply the blue stripes right over it instead of going to the trouble of masking twice and matching up the edges. The paint works best over black, but you can apply it over anything you like. The shade of the paint may be slightly different, but you'll still get an excellent pearl effect.
