alarm problem after installing a non-stock radio

Hey,
I have a 1998 New Beetle, 2.0L, manual. I hope some one had this problem before and could help me, so... I just installed a new Pioneer car radio, everything is good except for 2 things. (The old unit was the one with a cassett player only, but with the option of a cd changer) I got the new radio from crutchfield, the exact model is Pioneer DEH-P3700MP CD/MP3/WMA Receiver. It came with all the wiring kits and face plates and everything needed for the installation.
I use the remote to disarm the alarm and to open the doors, get into the car, start it and after maybe ~20 seconds the car arms it self. I can disarm it again but it will arm itself again and again. I believe that the stock radio was connected to the alarm system and now that I installed a new unit the car's computer thinks is missing something and going nuts. Is there a wire that I have to unhook or do something to stop the car from arming it self?
Second issue is that the new radio is ALWAYS on. I mean that I can turn it on without having the key turned. Thank god that the Pioneer has an off button so I can turn it off when I get out from the car. I have no clue what's wrong.

i don't think your alarm concern is related to the radio. in the 6 years i worked for vw 99% of beetle self arming alarm concerns were due to faultydoor lock assy. check to see if your dome light comes on when the dr door is opened. if not the problem is the dr door lock.
