daughters 90 accord had smoke come from steering column, turn signal arm stuck(except it will move the other way and flash brights ok), when car is on the running & brake lights work but flashers are stuck on. I know the ugly scene I'm bound to find but am wondering whether I should tackle it or leave it to Roger's automotive electric shop. What might have caused it and how difficult and how far might I have to get into dash and how? Thanks
ps found a light switch harness melted together on a ford truck recently, someone had stuck half a dozen pull tabs from beer cans in the fuse block!! Had to go look at hers, it's clean. One of her tires blown out in trunk, will have to go get that replaced! kids...
ok I see in the chilton manual I likely need to replace the combination switch. any consensus on whether the melting wires are beyond the 15P connector from the switch?

Probably just find the switch contact housing fried...that happens in Chevy Luminas sometimes too, similar problem.
You ever hear that story about the guys driving the old pickup at night and the headlight fuse burns out, and the only thing they can find that fits is a .22 LR round?
I think it's urban legend, but funny anyway...;) Made me think of that with your story...

98 Darwin Urban Legend. You got it jeff. Has a couple of Arkansas frog giggers sticking the 22 in fuse box and catching it in the nuts. Wife just wanted to know how many frogs they got!
Can't seem to find a source for turn signal switch, anyone know of one? Thanks again!

if your turn signal switch is mechanically stuck, it is most likely broken. your going to haveto replace it anyways.
as for smoke due to an electrical short, check the switch or the wiring (no. 1 and 14 on the link).
