Hello,
I just purchased a 86 rx7 non-turbo. It has been sitting for about 2 years. I am new to the rotary scene. I checked and it is getting spark and fuel. I did notice the plugs are wet though. But when I crank the car it spins over but does't sound like it is kicking. It sounds like it just spins. I bought this 86 and an 85 for $125.00. So I got a grat deal. The 85 has carb probs but sold to a great friend for $100 so I only have $25.00 in this car. So I had to buy. Please help me if possible on this issue. Really want to see what this machine is all about!!!!! Thanks

im sorry, but you bought matching pieces of shit. they both need engines, and god knows what else. just dont get your hopes up and expect something fast and powerful IF you get it running, for they are neither.

It sounds like it might be flooded but you could do a compresion test to make sure that the engine is able to run and please disregard any post the above poster may post since they have no idea as to what it is they are talking about.

squirt alot of ATF in the combustion chambers, crank it over till it fires. The seals may be stuck. The engine will probably need to be replaced soon after this by the way.

hmmm, fc"driver".... mazda"tech". i wonder who most people would take advice from. learn to use periods and commas, it makes sentences so much easier to read. i am truly amazed that i still have a job at this mazda dealer after 6 years, since i dont have any clue as to what i am talking about. the truth is very often a painfull thing to experience.

LMAO, cause screen names really indicate the level of knowledge for a certin car right? So how intelegent am i then? I mean i only build these cars, so does that make me stupid?

O and for a tech from mazda you shure are just like the othere guys ev eryoen deals with. Always jumping to conclusions about a rotary without knowing jack all about the actual car. It has been sitting for a few years. Wow, that does not make it junk. I have starts junk yard cars before with some marvel oil and a few minutes of time. Hell i have done this with cars and they have put over 100k on them after that.
Also, an answer like yours will not be taken seriously as it is somewhat rude.

Hmm lets see here... Lets go search a few of the post you have made and look to see how your advice looks. Now I know that I'm not about to take what someone says online without looking into what they have said in the past and by looking at your post they're all the same ignorance.
You have no idea how to work on a rotary or you would have caught on right off that wet plugs would indicate that it was flooded, right? For that matter any type of engine that has wet plugs would more then likely mean that it was flooding.
All you seem to be able to tell someone that has a question about a rotary is to sell that peice of crap because no one knows how to work on them except freaks that only live for these cars (wait that sounds familur).
You said yourself you don't know the chasis code for these cars but you and your coworkers call them by the "correct" chasis code of "POS", now like I've said in the past you are completly bias and either have no idea how to actually diagnos a problem or you're just to lazy to get in and do something other then change a part and call it a day untill the person brings the car back for the SAME reason, which you will moan and groan about how that part you replaced after so much time looking for a parts department guy to look up the part number for you just to replace something that more then likely wasn't wrong with it has came back in with the same problem.
Most techs are nothing but glorified parts changer, this isn't the case with all but you sound like one of those "techs".
I've had the chance to work in more then my fair share of dealers but I have turned down all the jobs because I do not want to turn my hobby into a profesion and while we're on dealers, I have had people bring me cars right after they had a dealer try to fix it but failed and I DON"T EVEN OWN A SHOP! Word of mouth of the quality of someones work speaks more then where they work at.
To the puncuation part, you know what, try finding anywhere that I have said I have perfect puncuation, spelling or grammar, you won't find it. Why? Because I will never claim to be able to do that nor do I wish to be able to be perfect in that field because it has little to no use for me other then lightly comunicating with others online which it doesn't take a total genius to figure out what I'm typing.
Anything else?

Well,
I really appreciate the advice. Whenever I get a chance I will try the oil trick. I am going to start looking for an engine. How hard is it to rebuild the 13B motor. Is it worth rebuilding mine or buying a remanufactured one. And does anyone know about much money this will cost. And how do you go about finding a mechanic. Like I said I only paid $25 dollars for the car. The interior is in grat shape. The exterior has a dent in the drivers side fender, the drivers side door handle is broken on the outside, and the red paint is slightly faded. So even if I have to put a new motor in it I still think I got a great deal. But I will reply when I am able to try cranking it again.
Thanks,
jnn7404

New motors, aren't cheap, but, by all means are not expensive.
If you live in Canada, new motor is anywhere from 2500-4000, depending on what you want and where you go.
In the USA, I think you are looking anywhere from 1900 - 4000 (I think don't quote me on that it is a rough estimate)
Hope that helps.

yeah fdtt, you're about right on your rough estimate of $1900-$4000 US price... and jnn7404, expect more for a 13bt, they're even harder to find in running condition around these parts...
