Well...to everybody that voted for this to happen....its underway.
To those who said i had lost the plot :finger: :finger: ..j/k

Anyway...i have made a start, the body has been all sanded and ready for a few coats of primmer tomorrow.

Its a pretty basic kit...not much to paint and not many parts.

So all parts have been cut from the sprue's and will be ready for painting later on.

Usual up dates and pics for those who are interested will follow as work gets done.

This is "probably" the wheels i will use, and also the look i'm hoping to get.(am i still nuts ??? :bloated: )

Got the body primmed today and lots of other bits painted also...its coming along real well as there is not many parts to paint.

Heres a quick step to what i have done so far....

Make sure you sand the car well...removing molding lines etc....i use 600 grit for this.
There was not many lines on it, just the usual bumper ones.
Finish off the sanding with 1200 grit paper.
Before painting, heat the can up in hot water for 10 minutes
2 Coats of primer about 5-10 mins apart

Dont bother sanding between coats as i dont really see the point...all you are doing is making more dust and removing half the paint you have just stick on.

My real car is a Golf IV and I'm going to use this Tamiya model as base to build an exact replica.
What colour you will use to paint it? My is silver.

Today was paint day !!!
Now the reason i dont have to wait a week after putting the primmer on is because we have a small baking oven at work that i use..... this hardens the paint very quickly.
Therefore after only primming it yesterday, today i added the finish coats.
Colour is Tamiya TS-49 Bright red....went for this colour as it was the tin that had the most in it in my model cuboard !!
Was sprayed with 3 coats....first just a mist coat...the 2nd 10 minutes laer....followed by the third and final coat 10 minutes later.
Pretty pleased with it so far.
Here's a pic so far

Heres a latest pic.
Got all the body polished and all the detail work done. The painting around the windows was a pain in the arse to get just right.
Panel lines are done and have used BMF for the head and tail lights.
Most of its painted now. Just have to put together and start on thr lowering of it.

True...but its well worth the money spent IMO.
I done the Golf in about 5-10mins max......where as before it would have taken me a whole day nearly and wouldn't have been as good

Its about as low as i can go with out cutting inner guards etc out.
Been a real pain to get right as there is not much to cut off the mounting points etc.
The shocks are nice and long which made that part easy.
Just got all the detail on the body like the lights/wipers/handles etc to have it finished
What do you think so far....height about right??

Thanks for the comments so far guys.
All the lights are done with Bare Metal Foil for the backing.....gives them a nice "sparkle" instead of silver paint

Do you use BMF Chrome or Ultra Bright Chrome? And that looks great, btw. I just don't get the recent obsession to lower every kit as much as possible :D

once again, another nice car primera man :) I was shocked when I read that you use spray cans! I gave up on spray cans a few years back and decided to invest in an airbrush. I'm glad to meet someone who is as addicted to rims as I am! I think I've changed the rims of every kit that I have and I probably have 15 more sets on the side! hope to see more pictures once the kit is done
