I have a 99 beetle has been sitting around for about 3 years. The battery was bad and replaced. Now when trying to start the throttle will auto adjust and it will die. The code was 1543 so replaced the throttle body and still having problem. If the throttle sensor is diconnected it will idle only. If you try and push on the gas it will die. Since the battery was dead do you have to do something secial for it to work right?

you need a scantool to adapt the throttle to the ecm.
try slowly depressing the gas and hold when all the way down for 5 seconds then slowly release. that should reset the throttle..

If you want to reset the throttle control module(match to the ECM)
You need a factory scan tool.

the car has lost it's throttle adaptation due to the lack of voltage while sitting. the car will have to go to the dealer to reset the throttle system.

Throttle Body Reset with VAGCOM
1- Ignition ON but not started
2- Go into engine
3- basic settings, type in "60" and hit go or enter
4- Watch the right hand block count up til "ADP OK" (hopefully)
5- close the controler and your done.
