Hi All, I have 99 crown vic PI with a bad hesitation at certain speeds. At one time I had codes that stated insufficient air flow for catylitic converter. I did find that I had a bad coil pack on one cylinder. I replaced and have not had as bad a problem but today on the way to work this car felt like it was missing really bad no matter what speed I was going. The car has 198,000 miles and has run very strong since purchase. Any Ideas that I can check myself?

A dirty MAF sensor can cause all manners of driveability problems. Cleaning instructions can be found at: www.crownvic.net/cleanmaf.html

So this MAF sensor would cause my car to act like its missinf or hesitating?

Yes it can. The MAF sensor "tells" the computer how much air is entering, so the computer can command the correct quantity of fuel. If the MAF sensor is dirty, it will think much less air is entering than really is, causing a lean condition that is outside of the computer's ability to correct for. You get: lean misfire, buck, or hesistation.

I cleaned that MAF sensor and the light came back on and it still hesitates. I am not sure what I should try next. Any suggestions?

What codes are associated with the engine light now?

insufficient air flow banks 1 and 2. I changed air filter. I am wondering if it might be cat converter.

Never heard of that code. What are the exact code numbers?

Dont remember but had to do with air flow in banks 1 and 2. Thought maybe oxygen sensors but then wondered about cat converter.

Do as BMFer1 suggests and get EXACT code numbers and post back. If not, it may cost a lot to just keep throwing parts until it is fixed.
