DING DING, WE HAVE A WINNER! YOU ARE THE 1 MILLIONTH PERSON TO ASK THIS EXACT SAME QUESTION! WOO....... :banghead:
Here are some of my favorite responses to this EXACT question:
... As a matter of fact it would be a bitch of a swap, wait what am I saying, ANY swap would be a bitch. The 2.2 OHV has the exhaust on the bumper side, while the ecotec has the exhaust firewall side. You would need so many new parts and the labor to put all that in would be enough to where you could just go buy a car with some power or potential for some power.
This has been covered MANY times there big homie. You could swap in a ferrari engine if you really wanted to. However, its going to be a hard swap, your car has exhaust on the bumper side and theirs has it on the firewall side. Besides, that engine and tranny will cost more than twice what your car is worth. If you really want a fast car just go fuckin buy a fast one or one with a little potential.
It will take much more money than your car is worth to swap that engine in. Dont bother with swaps, they take lots of time and money. If you want that engine so bad get a Cobalt with one. 2.4 and the 2.2 ecotec are good engines to boost, but your 2.2 OHV is a dead end. If you want a fast car you should sell the one you have and buy one with potential.
Yeah it will be a bitch. The engines are 180 degrees of each other, so the exhaust is on the bumper side on the 2.2ohv and the exhuast on the 2.4 is firewall side. It will be a very costly swap, just buy a z24.
Ok lets see now. These posts were all by me on the this exact same question, with basically the same info, and guess what? Thats not even all of them. That was the first 25 thread page of 4 (the max a search will return is 100 so there is probably more) that I took time to post on. How did I find all my old posts you might ask? I DID A FREAKIN SEARCH. Its a handy tool so that people like me dont have to type the same damn thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. Oh, by the way, welcome to AF !

OK great that is nice i looked at all 100 btw if you were refering to me - and there was not one build thread- do you guys have build threads at all? i mean over at penocks we have tons of build thread for teh just the 84-88 fiero that is only 4 years. how is it that you guys have a car that has been around since the 80s through 04 and it 05 sunfire in mexico and you don't have build threads on it for the 3.8 lt from a 3.1. there was also pushrod motors liek the pushrod 3.4 ohc from teh bird and maro we pu those in our fieos all the time tons of them. turbo na nitro you name it. and btw there is also a 200hp 3.8 pushrod for fwd. there was the montana van and the chev and olds vans from 1999. these engines are cheap and mostly plentiful.
so i think it would be more helpful to anyone to have a sticky thread for the things you don't want to repeat btw my search was "motor swap" unless there was another search i should have done and read every single post for about an hour of all 100 threads then ok let me know. or you can be an ass alot like some of the guys who have been here for a while.
As for the guy with the 2.2 go for the supercharged ecotech. Gm in there raceing cavys now have it up to 1100hp on a L4 can you say insane?oh and they beat the civics in the top end to. so just get an ecotec get a supercharged one for tq and a turbo for top end build the snot out of the bottom end to handle it. if you need tips on how to manage it let me know i can direct you to some people that won't bs you and yell at you fro not searching. searching sucks i was a newbie once. and i got to the point where it was almost pointless. at least here on AF over at penocks where there is build threads.... eehhh....
although perosnally as far as i can tell the cavies to build are the v6 3.1s from 1990 to 1994 swap in a v8 or a v6 and don't tell me you can't oput a v8 in there... we have a guy with a caddy 500ci motor in the back of his fricken fiero. he is down at porkies all the time.

:eek7: Where the hell did that all come from? Did you start this thread asking about an engine swap?
EDIT: Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation is your friend, I still dont have a clue as to what you just said.

what does the whole "build thread" have to do with this engine swap thread??? i dont know ALOT about cars but im pretty sure swapping and engine and building an engine are 2 different things, (who knows, maybe im wrong, its just a guess) and why are you getting so pissy when your not even the one that the "slam" was aimed at AND you could have tried "engine swap" (when you tried "motor swap")

A build thread over at penock's iplyis you are going to post a thread that involves picturs of a swap. and when i wrote that i was infurriated by some random jackass putting a new guy down. I used to hang out at the nissan forums in af and even those guys were alot mroe kind. i would advise that person to hang out with the honda guys they actually have build threads (the how to swap that bastard in) and they are good kind helpfull people. i am sick of coming here. with you guys bashing everyone for no apparent reason. I did not start the thread- though it does not matter. i was repying with a thread i was already making at J-body about the same topic. and as far as i know i know alot more about cars than the jackwod who replied with such an arrogence it could make you just puke.
These cars are only slightly different then our fieros as far as i am concerned. its just the engine is in the front instead of the back. making it fwd reather than mid rear wheel.
So i am saying as far as his possition goes. seeing that none of his year range came with the v6 it would be best to stick 4cyl rather than anything else. And i personally whent through all of the 100 threads searchable. and this same guy i have read all of his posts- saying that no you can't put a v8 in these without major modification. just check out www.v8archie.com. you could almost use the same kit to do that to your cavy. except i would think it owuld be easier just because you guys have a shitload more space in that engine bay then we do.
Now we can give this guy some strait ansers or we can sit here and bull shit for 5 days talking about and arguing about nonsensible things or we coudl just tell him hey this is how it works and this is how you do it. that simple. http://www.fiero.nl/cgi-bin/fiero/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=2.+Technical+Discussion+|AMP|+Questions&number=2&DaysPrune=2&LastLogin=

Oh believe me, I was in a good mood that day, son, I could have been much more of an "arse." Can you be any worse at the English language?
Ok, I'll stop with the shots. He asked a well covered question that he should have searched for, and thats that. So I searched for him and got some answers for him from my previous posts. The bottom line is nothing will go in there easy or cheap. If he had the knowledge or the means to do a swap he would have known that. Also, had he done the search, he would have found an answer in less than 5 minutes like I did. I still dont know why you took so much offense to something not directed to you, but I didnt mean to hurt yours or anyone elses feelings. I know it was kind of a smartass remark, and I am sorry for it.

Bah ppl these days... arguin' over the stupidest things... anyways blight is right a V8 will fit and no you don't have to modify everythin to fit it in, unless its overly huge like sumthin you find in a tun truck or V12 er sumthin... anyway yea.. if you know what ya doin and you get the right engine its almost just a matter of basicaly dropin it in... with the exception of maby a few simple modifycations that anyone can do...... i put a V8 in a cavy a month ago and the only modifycations we had to make was for th motor mounts and to fit the trany on, and a bit of tin cuttin.. nuthin major...

Go for ecotec if u have the money and time..oh and knowledge or its gonna cost u alot more!! forget about the 3.1 3.4 3.8 4.3OMFG engines...u can do it..theres like...4 in use/canada that i know did that (raven in halifax ull find him on jbody.org) htey did a 3.8swap...sc i think engine...its great givs aloot of power...specialy a 3.8 sc..ull leave many cars in the dust..like hondas :D:D(that makes me happy to see/hear) even some mustangs!! and now the magic question..do u REALy need all that power?? u realy wana get faster to the red light?? u can reach...270hp i think with a 3.8(buick regal-lesabre-pontiac bonneville) supercharged!! but its too much for a small car like that...its gets hot and etc..and also u have to make many things custom like custom mounts, tranny from an 00-05, custome sub frame brace, also the comp needs to be reflashed!! thats alot of work and money..i think u also need pieces of the 3.8engn car..forgot which pieces..but theres some. gl to find/make all these things..with all this money go swap an ecotec and add some mods maybe a turbo and there u go(gonna cost u a bit more but its more healty for ur car/u)
