Ferrari 348tb 1/43rd

Just dug this outta the box and finished her up tonight . . .

1/43rd scale Starter Kit purchased back in the 80's sometime. The kit was surprising for Starter as it was a departure from their standard kits. It came with a ton of photoetched parts, castings were smooth and everything fit like a glove. This kit gave my BBR's a run for the money!

Paint is PPG base-coat/urethane clear-coat factory matched. Can't remember the specific code/name though. I wanted to go with a nice tan interior but decided on black to match the full scale 348 it was modeled after . . .

Photoetched items included Wipers, multi-part side strakes (PITA to paint), 10 piece rear grille work, emblems and Cav's, relief etched rear deck lid and wheel faces, which sit in turned aluminum rims.

Not sure if you can make out the interior shot but, it's pretty well detailed also! Get this, it came with INTERIOR DOORS!!! <faints>. The kit supplied decent decals for just about everything. I added light flocking for carpet, custom made lever and ball. . .

Just a few little things left to do. Gotta add side marker lights, reg. tags and maybe scuderia's. . . OH! and drill out those exhaust tips. . .

The other pics didn't capture the shine on the model like the last one. Damn digital cameras . . .

Gotta adjust that right wiper too! My tripod fell over onto the model and knocked it off! Luckily there was no damage . . . :lol:

I like the 348 series, but those wing mirrors just don't work for me - they somehow make the car unbalanced/front heavy

Yeah, I never liked the mirror style either or the 348 for that matter. The car just seemed too clunky and unkempt for a Ferrari. Then there's the gawd awful front driving lights. . .:screwy:

However, I did fall keen on the car after one of my customers let me have a go in his 1 to 1, which this is modeled after . . .

Wow that is nice. :D I really like that deep metallic blue on Ferraris. Kinda like the wing mirrors too, especially on the spider.

Yeah, it depends on the manufacturer but a lot of them over look interior door detail. Starter, Provence Moulage and Alezan come to mind off hand. All have examples without interior door detail. :shakehead

You know Paint code descriptions, they're like opinions, everybody has one! :lol:

Back in the 90's PPG came out with a new color-match system where they used actual paint samples gathered from autobody shops to formulate this new database.

They had a a credit program where autobody shops would cut a section out of let's say, a wrecked fender and had specific stickers to put on the back of these samples to included the paint code, model and make info. These were then collected by PPG reps and submitted to PPG. Shops would then get a $10.00 credit towards the purchase of this new system for each sample they collected.

PPG then developed a reference of each color and its varying shades and distributed the new system catalogs with actual painted samples rather than the old printed color catalogs.

You could then take all of the various shades of one color and place them on the surface of the car, letting you get an exact color match! A big money saver for autobody shops as it is impossible for car manufacturers to produce thousands of cars and retain color fidelity through out. It essentially eliminated the need to mix and remix paint to get an exact match . . .

My point with all of this??? I HAVE NO CLUE but, it gave me something to do for the last 10 minutes. . . :bloated: :lol:
