ok, i have an 87 n/a gxl 5sp and was looking for an upgrade in power. i've already put alot of thought into this car, its been my project since summer 2002. its probably the only thing i look forward to being around when i get out of work. so heres my problem. i'm a technician and i have fabricated a turbo system before but i was worried in this case if my compressions too high to push a large amount of boost (about 12-15psi) keeping my engine alive as a daily driver. i know stock i'm around 9.4:1.

i hear different things about how much these cars can take. numbers as low as 5-7 and than fools that say 25... i don't know who to believe. what should i do? has anyone aftermarket turboed an n/a 13b? looking at a ts-t4 custom fabrocation, intercooled and seriously tuned. please help

Well a lot of people will say the 6port won't hold to boost at all but there are people that are running 10+psi with proper fuel mods without problems.
7-9 is as high as I would push the 6port without larger injectors and a management system.

There aren't many aftermarket turbo systems for the n/a engine so you're pretty much looking at building it yourself.

most people just swap engines

how much different are the n/a 13b's and the single turbo II motors. i would need the tranny and diff. plus the wiring harness and computer. you know any sites where i can get info on the swap?

Check out rx7club.com and look in the second generation faq section and archives.

Unless the 7 is your weakend/thro loads of money at car then dont go turboing a NA. Its a waste of time and never enough power. I have done some but it will cost ALOT to make good usable power out of the motor.
Just swap a TII or put an LS1 in there.

well this isnt my daily driver. its been in the garage most of the time. i've given alot of this thought though and i'm thinking of selling it to a friend of mine. he had an older mx-6 gt turbo and hit a bear on the way to his house three nights ago completely destroying his front end, so hes looking for a car.

i found an 5spd. 88 TII engine-less about 90 miles from me for a grand. on jdm engine corp.com they sell a 13b-t s4/s5 engine, 5 speed tranny, computer, wiring harness and intercooler for $1450 + shipping. considering its already a T-II car the drop should be no problem for me. sound like a better plan than turboing an NA?

Its much easier and cost efficient to go with that rather than turboing the NA.
