incorrect gear ratio

i bought a 1997 MB C-230 with 166000 miles. my problem was, when i put it in drive it would,nt move .Put it back in park, then back in drive ,it moved.
Two days ago, i put in drive & it moved but would,nt change gears, after about 20 seconds of that, the engine light came on. Had it check at autozone. code came out as 730 incorrect gear ratio. Please help.

You need to take the car to a Mercedes technician and definately not Autozone. I have never heard of that code before(which is not to say it doesn't exist) but I doubt it has anything to do with your gear ratios. You may or may not have a serious problem but I can assure you if you let someone like Autozone or Advance diagnose it you will be asking for trouble. If I were guessing I would say the clutches may be worn, but 166k is low miles for that to happen which leads me to ask the question "Have you checked the fluid level?"
