Well i am a noob so flame me if you want i'll take it in stride.

So on to my first race. Now i just got my license about 4 weeks ago and when i did this race i had it only for 2 weeks. Now me and a friend of mine who drives dirt track were cruising around talking shit to eachother when we pul into a parking lot cuz i had to piss. When this other Dodge avenger pulls up and downshifts and revs high with a magna flow muffler.
This is what ive been waiting for some dude who wants to go. So we pull out and follow him im keeping back and then kinda coming up to his back now he leads us out of town and were by an interstate on a nice straight smooth rode we roll the windows down and i know the kid his avenger has a 5 speed 4cyl in it and i got the v6 auto.
we go through the usual wanna race shit and we start revving im only letting it up to 4 and i think hes at 6 and i think we both counted to ten and bang were off he gets a shit load of spin and my car jumps off the line now im just about 3/4 to the floor with the pedal and pulling away with ease he misses a gear and drops back even further by this time i let off and laughed the whole time we goes by and i follow him to the local mall and im cold cuz its damn there winter and i have the heat full blast we talk a little and i decide to head home

Well buddy, welcome to my favored illegal activity. I hope you enjoyed the race but I also hope you race smart and survive to race another day. Just a few quick pointers that I have found helpful.

1.Never Race In Traffic (This is the big one and the obvious one as well)

2.Never Race Where There Are Hazards (Ice,Rain,Cones,Parked Cars)

3.Never Assume A Spot Is Not Being Watched (The 5-0 are sneaky you should be too)

4.Never Assume A Racer Is On The Up and Up (Remember you are breaking the law and so are they)

5.Never Race When Your Gut Says No (Your gut is always right)

6.Never Show Off (It can bring a world of hurt down on you and your ride)

7.Always Listen And Learn (Many have raced before you and have knowledge you might like to know)

8.Never Assume Your Faster (That Olds may have a big motor hidden under all that rust)

9.Rice Or Race, Don't Mix The Two (This doesn't mean your Race car can't look good and your Rice can't be fast, just stick to purpose to start off with)

10.Try It All (Race as many cars as you can in as many cars as you can)

Finally....

11.Have Fun (Remember racing is supposed to be fun, not a chore)

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavours and hope you have fun and don't get hurt or worse hurt someone else.

Wow SilentNight, you put together one hell of a list; sweet collection. And as for the Newbie...they're right, be safe. New license = minimum experience. Something is bound to happen to a new driver, let alone new illegal street racer. I'm sure you love your avenger and all, but for only $1700 theres a risk that something is going to go soon and racing is only going to aid in vehicular destruction. Godspeed Burner, looking foward to more stories

your list kinda reminded me of fight club for some reason...

all obvious things.... and i'm sure we all know someone who didn't think of the list when they were driving, and the stuff that happens as a result
and it's good that you put out the list.

on the race, good kill, i'd get more experience driving before i'd race again.. get to know your car and you'll notice that the end result will be a much faster/funner experience.

as for street racing for me... i'm basically done... too many close calls. but i'm always up for a good story. now i don't mean i'm retired.... you'll see why in a few months =)

Well i have to either start babing my car more or get a whole new set of wheels and tires  the way i bought it has a bent up rim so im just gonna get a whole new set of Konig rims with yokohoma touring tires.

But before i heard about that i have one more race to tell you guys about. This wasnt as much of a race as it just was for kicks. I was in town and i was just by main street so that means lots of stop lights which sucked at my first stop light (theres 5 total) an almost new white grand prix or am im not sure pulls up next to me now i have 2 passengers with me and i dont really want to do anything without asking them first and they say kick there asses now this whole time the pontiac is revving its engine and im laughing i hold the brake and hold it at 4k and the light turns green i take off better they spin badly and i get up tp 40 and they staying near but aint cathing up. Next light we stop they flip me off i laugh at them and turn up some alice cooper i do the same thing for the next 3 except the last one by this time there asses have been beat badly i hold the car at a higher rpm and drown them out completely light turns green i dont hold nothing back and were off i blow them away the whole rest of the way to the intersection laughing at it the whole time and i got a g/f out of the whole deal so luck smiled on me

^hmmm...why would a grand prix rev at some kid in a stock looking avenger.....unless the driver was an old dude thinking he's fast and furious or something, dont we have someone like that on af? i forgot his name...

Nice kill man. Yeah, I remember when I first got my licence: my friend raced me. He had 2002 Pontiac Grand AM 4 cyl ecotec and I was driving my dad's delivery Chevy Van 20 with 5.0 L V8. We both gunned it and through 1st I gained 1/2 car, 2nd - same, 3rd I pulled anothe 1/2 car on him, then we shut down because of the light. That was shitload of fun. I was amazed how he kept up with me. So I imagine how you feel. Congratulation on your first race and first victory.

aren't you on automatic 6 month probation when you first get your license? be careful racing man, if you get caught they'll take your license away for a while. don't be another statistic contributing to everyone else's insurance rates going up.

Probably because the grand prix wanted to race?

Good luck with your future races, and like everyone said, be safe and be smart

sorry to cause any confusion, maybe its just me, but, if it was something like a stock looking stealth or viper i'd understand, but a stock looking avenger? i wouldn't rev at it unless it reved at me first , now maybe im the one whos still confused here, did you say you rev at him first or he reved at you first? and your car "is" stock, right? even sounds like stock? now why would anyone rev at it? uhhhh...

That really doesnt make alot of sense. I would race an avenger. Also, you seem to be saying that the avenger is nothing to write home about, when people rev at you and you drive a CAMRY. There is a huge difference btw a stealth and a viper too, especially considering what you drive. Those cars would kill you, while an avenger would be a closer fit. uhhhh...

an avenger is a SPORT COUPE that may be why someone would rev at him. they look sporty. hence the sport in sport coupe. id rev at an avenger before id rev at a camry.

The dodge avenger was a good beginners choice with front wheel drive and decient saftey. When I first turned 16 I took my dads SS S10 spun out over the median into oncoming traffic(it was rainy and was rear wheel drive with 260 lb/ft torque). Just dont think something wont ever happend to you. I've known people who thought that and arent here today.

And off the subject...do you by chance live near New Ulm, Ill be heading up there soon for Christmas.

Hey grats on your first race, Just so people know im new to these forums but not new to street racing. I remember my first race, it was with my buddy back when he had an eclipse and i had a diamante. it is definately a fun thing and as you go on learning different things about racing make sure you play with different cars and learn their capabilities on the street, you would be very suprised as to what you think you can do and what you actually can do.
