i really dont trust a name brand that much but while looking around ive only found two shifters the b&m and some other one and since ive known many other people who have had b&m shifters. but yes it does suck that it costs as much as it does but i figure that im going to be using it everytime that im in the car and im told that b&m makes a very reliable and long lasting shifter so i guess that the extra money is worth it instead of go cheap and a year from now have it break.

I had a 2000 cavi 2.2l and i put a b&m shortshifter on it and it worked great. I had no problems or complaints with mine. The way i look at it is you get what you pay for. Hope this helped your decision. Good Luck

i put a B&M short throw in my '02 and it's beautiful. very very solid and looks and feels great. once i properly greased it up it was much smoother and tight than my stock shifter. i would say it's worth getting a B&M for the price, but i don't have experience with other brands.

You'r payin 80 bucks for about what, 3 bucks worth of metal spun in a lathe for 10 minutes. They are basicly the same. One says b&m one don't. thats the only real difference.

How difficult is it to replace the shifter (2002 Cav) with the Pull Knob thing to get into reverse to a short throw shifter?

its hard ewnough to get it professionally done because you have to raise it and get under the car...they say its pretty easy after you raise it so....idk

I think you have to understand something. B&M first produced that shifter, then the other company made a knock off of the B&M shifter. So B&M spent all the R&D on the shifter brought them to the market and then had someone steal their idea. If it wasnt for B&M you wouldnt have any shifter choice. For me it would be easy, i would go with B&M b/c i know they took the time to develop a product for our community, something that doesnt hapen as often as say the honda community. Not to mention B&M has been around for years, and they come with a warranty, the other company could be run out of the back of some guys pickup truck for all you know.

You do not have to lift the car up to replace the shifter, all you have to do is remove the center console and remove the shifter assembly, once you do that you follow the instructions that come with the shifter and thats it.

yea, what he said.
i just installed my B&M a few weeks ago and it was moderately difficult for someone with 0 knowledge. The hardest part was figuring out how to take off the center console, then disasembling the shifter. after that it was easy to put it all back together. the instructions that it came with weren't written for someone with no knowledge, but given a good saturday of time you can do it for sure.
tools needed: good lighting, socket wrench with either 10mm or 13mm socket (forgot which, and yes it's metric). helps if you have one of those extenders for the socket wrench. also helps if you have a good flathead screwdriver. that's all you really need, the rest comes in the box.
the best thing to do would probably be invite someone over who knows a few things about cars and drink a few beers.
