98 4cyl Starts then dies.....

Hello everyone

Im new to this forum and am actually posting for a friend... yeah i know... sure for a friend. But anyway here is the problem...

He has a 98 Malibu LS 2.4L 4 Cyl the car starts, and will run for about 15 minutes. All the time it is running it is like it is low on juice. Lights are dim then about 15 minutes later the battery light comes on and the car dies.

His first guess was alternator... had that replaced for a small fortune. When the old alternator was tested it was good...whole other problem. Any way so now we are stumped... was thinking wiring to battery from alt, or something along those lines.


Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. He is getting the battery tested tonight.

If it starts then dies, sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me. Check out your fuel injectors. It might be that your fuel filter is clogged or your fuel pump is weak.

Thanks for your reply. I checked the fuel filter... it was dirty but not the problem. So he took it into the mechanic that changed the alt. They found a loose wire from the alternator to the battery.... just cant find good help these days.
