aight me and this kid have this argumen going on..
I have a 2000 stock honda civic ex sedan. The original wheels that came on it were 14"'s. Recently I bought some new 17" team dynamics wheels( which most people in the USA know nothing of..y is that?)
Am I correct in saying that because I got bigger wheels, I now have even less power or in other words I am slower?
His argument is that even though they are bigger they are lighter, therefore it shouldn't matter and my ride should still be as quick if not quicker?
so who's right? let me know thanks all
p.s. does anyone know the specs on my wheels?
I bought the team dynamics monza's in 17" with a 45 offset, are these made of aluminem? how much do they weigh?
peace

all depends on how much the wheels+tyres weigh. if they weigh more than stock, you'll be slower due to rotational mass being increased and thus harder to accelerate to speed.
also, if the overall diameter of the tyre is increased, you'll be slower

Go here http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html and put in your old tire size and your new tire size and it will tell you if you are slower or faster and by how much.

Im gonna out on a limb and say that your Monza's in 17s weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 18-21 lbs. And more often than not, aftermarket rims will weigh more than your stockers. As far as being faster-- you're probably not. Most likely you are slower than you were, but not by much. Your braking and suspension will also be affected, because using heavier wheels will put more stress on these components.
Hope this helps

I was the first person to import Team Dynamic wheels in the USA :) Qualifiers back in 1996

The Monzas in 17s are about 17-19lbs per wheel - which is more than stock so yes you will be slower overall. More power to turn them meaning less power to the ground. Since the wheels are heavier you will corner slower (although the smaller sidewall is better), and braking distances will increase.

You were the first?
HA, that must make you feel cool. I remember when those were the rage, every Si out here had the a set of White Wagon wheel looking set of 18s.
You brought over the virus :)
You hate the show scene now that you are out?

I was the first with alot of things :)
One of the firsts to order the TSW Venoms (early 1996)
Team Dynamic rims (1996)
1/2 clear and 1/2 red taillights back in 1997
A&A SPecialties carbon fiber hood (well only one at NOPI 1999)
Converted my auto to manual LOOK :) back in 1997
First one to do graphic plates on the side of the car back in 1997
Then just window stickers on the rear 1/4 panel window in 1998
