2002 MPV cutting out

My '02 MPV with 72K miles started cutting out about 6 weeks ago. First, just barely perceptible, usually going up a hill. It's gotten worse over time and now happens alot (flat roads, stop lights, ...) I changed the plugs with no effect and am now thinking fuel starvation. Is the fuel pump/filter in the tank? Or is there a filter somewhere else?
Can I check the pump before replacing?

I have not yet changed the pump/filter assembly in my daughter's '00 MPV, but I understand everything is in the tank.

Fuel starvation USUALLY, BUT NOT ALWAYS, will first show up as the engine is loaded up ... and not at low loads or idle.

Our MPV recently began cutting out ... getting worse and worse. The original plugs were still in at 120k miles. So was the air filter. To get to the plugs easier, I removed the intake manifold .... found the intake EGR path almost entirely plugged up. After much cleaning, new plugs, new cables (old ones had hi-volt leaks), air filter, etc ... it runs like new. I don't know what was the single most important thing.

has your PCV hose recall been done? that is a huge vacuum leak when it splits and will cause power loss, surging, stalling, check engine lights. if that is ok, i have seen several engine coolant temp sensors go bad on those models

the newer mpvs have a lot of problems with coils... sounds most like what you're describing. Powerbraking (gently) usually makes the coil(s) breakdown more obvious.

i've seen lots of pumps in the older vans but not the 01 and up's. with those the problem was usually only evident with 1/4 tank of gas or less.

Our 2002 MPV kept smelling like something was burning and then just cut out last week and we were able to start it up again but it kept stalling. $268.00 later we found out it was the "Map Sensor." It runs find now, but we are still getting the burning smell and don't know what is causing it. It might be worth checking that sensor out though.

sound like you have and oil leak issue. or pan gaskets/ timing covers / valve
covers.

I have the same car with the same issue, only with 35,000 miles on it. I took it in and got a cylinder 5 mis-fire, so I replaced #5 coil. It worked great for about a month, then started occationally missing again, then all the time. Any ideas?
