carb ice

I recently have had a problem with my carb icing up and my car going dead. It is a 1970 beetle with a stock 1600 cc engine single port. I installed a brand new intake manifold this weekend and sure enough this morning it started icing up and going dead 5 or so minutes after I cranked it up. Any thing else it might be?

try putting dry gas in your tank, you might have water in your gas line. also take off top of carb make sure container on back of carb is filled with gas. let me know

check the exhaust runners make sure they are heating up manifold. they may be clogged.

Check your heat risers and make sure they are getting hot after the engine runs for a few minutes. You said you put a new manifold on, so I doubt they would be blocked. But there is a tube that runs from the left side heat riser down into the muffler, it may be blocked.

Also do you have a air cleaner with a preheat valve? I recently got one and it solved my carb icing problem. Here is the link to a air cleaner with pre-heat:

Also make sure you get this resolved. When your carb ices up it makes your engine run rich, with tends to burn valves :nono:
