Hi, I have a 1994 Isuzu Rodeo, the other night I was coming home and I lost compression, it stalled down to about 15 miles an hour and then when I turned it off it won't start again. It turns over, and wants to fire so bad, but won't. It is getting gas and has spark. Some one mentioned it could be the timing belt, but is there one on it, and if so where is it at? If any one know what it could be any help would be appreciated as it is my only vehicle. Please. Thank you B.

Ok, lets start with the basics, why do you think you lost compression? Have you thought about gaskets before timing, what is your thought pattern here?

I had my son in law look at it and he said the gaskets were good, and I just had the oil changed and they said all was fine, It has been acting up some what and will act as it is starved for gas or something, and when I go up hill it will slow down, but they said my fuel filter is ok and I am getting fuel and spark, at first I thought it may have been that it had been over filled with oil, as my dip stick had broke and I hadn't got a chance to get a new one, so I thought that maybe it was acting up due to perhaps foaming up excess oil, but it was fine, so I am not sure what it could be. Please Help

I did have a timing issue and when going up a hill, it was a struggle, but whats your gas milage like? If its bad, thats indicative of a timing adjustment, by the way the timing belt is located in the front of the engine under a cover. How do you know you are getting spark? A friend popped a spark plug out of her engine and it rikershaded off the hood and went back into the socket, Have you checked to be sure they are in there OK? Ohm out the ignition wires to make sure they are good., make sure fuel tank vent lines are clear. When they put the fuel filter in, they put it in the correct direction? Check all the vacuum lines for leaks. Perhaps its a bad EGR valve.

I did have good gad milage but then it started to get bad when the rodeo started acting up, As for spark my son in law is a shade tree mechcanic (pretty good one too) and checked it for me, he said there was fuel, but he hasn't pulled the filter, I told him we will do the "simple" things first, Thanks for your input, When it comes to cars I am ok if it is older than a 1980 and is american made. Grew up fixing them.
