To summarize, an average joe attacks Dr. Dre, unarmed, and lands a punch on the rapper.
In retaliation, another rapper STABS the average joe.
The average joe gets three years in prison for his unarmed attack.
The rapper gets three years (suspended?) probation and eighty hours of community service.
Am I missing some fact that wasn't in the news story, like average joe is a previously convicted child rapist? Cause if I'm not, this is blatantly offensive to EVERYONE who follows laws...because with shit like this happening, what the hell good are these laws anyway?!
(If this came down to "who can pay more for a lawyer, I'm going to be even more pissed off)

bleeding dodge, I think you're missing the point.
Average Joe committed a MUCH lesser crime and got a much stricter prison sentence because A) he couldn't afford an expensive, hi-profile lawyer or B) he doesn't have "friends in high places"
For whatever reason, the rapper got off scott-free (We all know how much probation means when you're a "star" of any kind)
you don't attack someone with a knife unless you want to kill them. if you only want to scare them or stop them from attacking your friend, you attempt to grapple, restrain or attack them unarmed. Or hell, shoot him with a stun gun. There is no (logical, socially acceptable) reason that young buck should have gotten off as lightly as he did!

don't know about indiana, but atleast here in NY, pocket knives are a lot easier to get than a stun gun, and much more intimidating and effective than a fist, and unless you stab the guy like 10 times in the chest, he's not gonna die. Majority of stabbings are done without the intent to kill. I still agree with you, this justice system is VERY flawed, but fuck, there isn't shit anyone can do about it.

Vinnie- It's a lot easier to kill someone with a knife than some people realize. There are major arteries all over the body. If you stab the right place on someone's thigh (close to the groin area) you can penetrate the arterie that feeds the leg....
and you're right, stun guns are hard to get ahold of...that comment was somewhat tongue in cheek.

Average Joe assaults rapper unprovoked---> Rapper defends self with knife---> Average Joe has no excuse=Jail--->Rapper claims obvious self defense=probation.

OK, that would fall under the category of "facts I had missed." I didn't know that the average joe had STARTED the melee.
And Swiggy, the rapper (young buck) didn't defend himself- it was Dr. Dre who average joe attacked.
However, if the average joe was the one that started the fight, this seems a little more reasonable. I'm just sick of all this downright inhuman behavior (scuffling for superiority? showing off for the herd? that reeks of pack behavior.) that goes along with most rappers nowadays

Third party defense is an acceptable excuse so to speak for causing another person bodily harm even if one person's weapon is deadlier than another's.
For instance, if a man swings at a friend of mine with a baseball bat with an obvious intent to cause some serious harm, i am justified in say shotting him with a 12-gauge.
That being said, the problem lies in proving that the person being attacked was in enough danger to warrant the use of a deadly weapon

never understood what was so cool about a butterfly knife, but then again i guess im from a small town where u just gotta learn to use your fists n what not
and yea i dont think he should have been justified in pulling the knife, but maybe the "attacker" should have thought twice about attacking a rapper

this thread is not about Young Bucks rapping talent. That is a thread for the Music forum. this thread is to discuss the apparent unfairness of the judicial system as applied to "celebrities."
ALso, I still want to know, did the average joe who hit dr. Dre throw the first punch or had the melee already been started?

"He was charged with stabbing show attendee Jimmy James Johnson, 27, after Johnson punched producer Dr. Dre "
We don't know enough about it to get offended. It could have just been a tiny little shank. Maybe he stabbed him with a fork, a pencil, anything to get this hillbilly off of Dr Dre.
Jimmy james johnson... gimme a break. He was only there to assault a rapper.

Yeah, normally I'd be against the use of a knife in such a, for lack of a better word, non-extreme situation. Yes, I carry a knife with me. Why? Because of the three times I've been jumped, all of them have been close to my home and all by people I know/knew. Have I had to pull it in either of the 3? No.
But, on the apposing side, if Young Bucks felt that Dr. Dre's life was in immediate danger, it could very well justify the use of a knife or lethal weapon. Under the law it says that only if your life is in immediate danger does it justify the use of lethal force. If someone is waving a gun at you, it does NOT justify using a lethal weapon. If someone says they're going to kill you, it does not justify a knife. If someone has their finger on the trigger and the gun is cocked and loaded AND pointed at you, that justifys lethal force. As does a charge with a knife or other deadly object.
BUT... It's all the way the court sees it in the end. this time, they saw it to be justifyable. Next time, maybe not.

word, especially if that somone makes a living rapping about being gangster and killing people.
Jimmy James Johnson, he deserves to be stabbed for having that stupid name. How the hell can you have the same first and middle name?

^ Why not. There are alot of folks that have middle first names,
Billy Bob Thorton
Anthony Michael Hall, etc etc Its the spanish surnames that take getting used too, and I'm spanish. We use our mothers maiden name as well.
For example,..
David Michael Velasquez-Arroyo Jr
First Middle Last (father/mother)

1st and foremost, yes, the punishment received was too harsh, on both parties. That'd be like giving 3 years for every bar fight. The attacker should have gotten an overnighter and some fines and probabtion but b/c it was a star, he got 3 years. The stabber should have gotten a medal. If some guy walks up and punches you and your buddy stabs him, should your friend be in jail?
