98 Accent, 1.5L SOHC, MT, USA.

First, I did attempt a search. I can't seem to find help that way.

It seems to misfire while accelerating and decelerating, but if I hold it around 3K RPM, it runs fine. This just started happening today. I drove about 2 miles to and from McD's and no problems. Then tonight, I started to go to a friends, and about .75mi into the trip the CEL came on and I noticed the jerking/misfiring. Listening to it at idle, I can hear a sputter. It also seems to want to idle at about 2100rpms. HELP PLEASE!!!

Thanks,
Skylor Williams

I had some misfire problems and a set of $40 generic cables and some new plugs did the trick. Don't know about idling speed and timing and all that stuff. However, if you haven't swapped out the plugs and/or cables in a while you might want to check that avenue first as it is cheap and can only benefit you. All the best.

I second that opinion. Another thing you can do to check for shorting out is take the car somewhere dark at night (no street lights), open the hood and rev the engine through it's rpm range. sparks will be easy to see. You can rev it from under the hood by manipulating the throttle body at the back of the engine.
