Are you not able to buy regular 5W30 Premium Motorcraft Oil? Everything I try to get in a 5W30 which is recommended for my 99 Ford Explorer is a synthetic blend. Is Ford not making the regular stuff any more?? Will the synthetic blend hurt the engine??
Thanks!
Thanks!

I just changed my oil this weekend with Pennzoil 5W-30. Are you talking about Ford oil only?

You can use synthetic oil if you prefer to, just be ready to pay more per quart and if you use FULL SYNTHETIC, it will be the ONLY oil you use the rest of your explorers life. You can use what they call a SYN-BLEND, that allowes you to switch back to conventional oil if you prefer to, and isn't too expensive. I used Castrol syn-blend in my 00' Cherokee and at 115K the engine ran great and was still very clean. I plan on using it in my 02' Explorer, as long as your oil weight designation is the same you'll be fine.

I am the manager of a quick lube and the reason is to meet the GF4 and GF5 specifications. The only way to meet this was to convert all oil to syn blend. If you see GF4 or GF5 on the bottle, its syn blend.

OKay I admit I'm dumb as a bag of hammers about cars. So please explain why you can't switch back and forth once you have use Full Synthic oil. I really want to do a good job taking care of my new XLT. especially since it's a 94. I really have already learned a lot just reading the post, so thanks to everyone who has shared their wisdom.

So does this mean that if our Explorers were serviced at the dealership that they were using a synthetic blend, or were they using a full synthetic.
Switching from full synthetic to conventional I have heard is a VERY BAD thing to do, something to do with the molecular structure of the oils, the way that they "bond" to the metal protecting it.
