What would be better for an 01 SS a regular cat back system or a custom made with test pipes? Or is it the same performance?

I would try borla...
I had a flowmaster american thunder catback, and was happy with that also, but im much happier with the borla, i believe the model is 14888, you mentioned preformance, your not going to get less restriction with anything else.. unless you just take the cat off

One Of The Nices Cat-back I Heard Is The Corsa Performance System, Performane Is Just As Good. The Only Thing Is That It Cost Almost $900. Slp Is An Other Good 1 Sounds Great And Performs Aswell. And The Flowmaster 80 Ser Is A Good 1 Too. It Sounds And Performs Great, The Cheapest Price Of All.

blah, blah............$900 cut-outs

Well your cats are in the y-pipe... longtubes usually eliminate them, which the straight pipes would be for... so get a catback (heres a vote for magnaflow)

custom made with SLP bullet racing mufflers i'm heading towards that dirrection it's cheaper and it's the same thing right

The only thing that sounds really good on LS1s would be true duals with a big cam.

I'm sorry but that's the one thing us LT1 guys have on you

I got a free flowmaster muffler its umm well it was free.

I'll be upgrading to true duals soon.

are the edelbrock headers any good?

the shorty headers

Don't get shory headers. They don't do much in the way of power or sound. If you plan on replacing the stock manifolds, I would definately look into coated longtubes.

All out power and sound = coated LT headers... Pacesetter is the best bang for the buck and are just as good as anything short of $900 Kooks/QTP stainless headers

Ground clearance = Mid length headers... Mac mids are the most appraised mid length header I've heard of, some others have a few issues. There are also RK Sport and AS&M.

This spring/summer, I am considering the Pacesetter coated LT's with y-pipe for my LT1. Found the LT's for $400 and the matching y for $125. Not bad considering the price of these things from other companies. Free shipping too!

Actually, it doesn't

Flowmaster flows worse than any other aftermarket muffler. For example take magnaflow... the muffler is straight through. Flowmaster you've got your chambers and your baffles... yea those help with sound, but performance wise all the do is add backpressure and impede flow

hooker longtubes are supposed to be able to be installed without lifting the engine. That way you could do it yourself easily. Then just get a MAC y-pipe and youve got a great flowing exhaust. Theres another brand of LT's that mimic the hooker design but i cant remember the name.

Catback....avoid SLP if you plan on adding headers.
Magnaflow is possibly the best sounding cheaper catback.

Headers....Pacesetters seem to be leading the pack right now in the 'back for buck' category.
I went with Kooks. QTP are the same design as Kooks.
SLP headers....again, just avoid them. I removed all my SLP exhaust because it sounded like crap. Including the headers.
Stainless Works has a great set of LS1 longtubes as well.
JetHots are good also (coated Hookers).

Me, I am going with Kooks longtube headers and 24" Magnaflow race mufflers. Nothing else. Header into muffler and dump.

I got a question for ya Mr. Luos... How much is it gonna take for you to pass emissions?

Yea get pacesetter headers from Texas Speed, they are the cheapest in Pacesetters. I love the way my flowmaster sounds but they say it doenst flow. Next best sounding in my opinion with headers is Hooker. Borla sounds mean as well but i havent heard it with headers. Magnaflow sounds like crap in certain RPM's with headers. But for best results i have to agree with the other guy Tru-duals sound kick ass and make good power.

www.byunspeed.com
Young includes shipping in his prices. Right now he is running a special on the Pacesetters. $395 shipped. Should be right about on par with Texas Speed's pricing with shipping.

Either place is great. Take your pick.
I know Young from byunspeed personally. He has helped wrench on my TA and I have helped wrench on his SS.

Did you have any fitmint problems with Kooks? I've been reading a rash of problems now.

Flow master is junk I got one for free and even knowing it was junk still better then stock right... I wish I still had my stocker. True duals soon so w/e.

Mr. Luos

I have recently heard of some problems with Kooks as well.
I ordered my headers 7-8 months ago, and so far they look good. They are on the car, fitment wasn't a problem. Although it is much easier to install headers when the motor is out.
I have heard of problems with the welds leaking too.

I'm happy to hear yours are holding up!

From what it seems like it was a bad batch or 2 everyone is jumping on the QTP bandwagon *great headers don't misunderstand* I still think as long as Kooks can clear up it has a bit better layout.
