Okay I know this isn't a dsm question but I figured maybe common knowledge.

I am doing some minor minor appearance upgrades to my cobra. Now on the rear on the trunk right next to the cars plates, there is the standard
Ford emlblem. Well I want to remove that and replace it with one of the nifty cobra emblems. My question to you my fellow dsmers. Does anyone know how to remove an emblem of this type and clean the area up so as there isn't an outline of where it once was. And also how and what kind of glue or adhesive to use on the Cobra emblem when I glue it to the car itself? I'm trying not to fuck the paint up if you can tell lol.

Here is a picture of the rear, and the emblem is the ford emblem on the right.

When I took the emblems off of my car I used a smooth blade putty knife to pry it off then I used goo gone to clean up any residue and it worked great and didn't mess up the paint. As far as putting one back on...I have no clue

Krazy Glue, would that be safe for the paint?

I've heard of people using some fishing line to get it off so you dont scratch anything with the putty knife. IIRC people used 3m double sided tape to put them back on, to test it you could run a hose over it for a few minutes and see if it holds.

With my emblems on my truck i used fishing line to get them off. Then used an Eraser Wheel to get the glue off. Highly reccomend the eraser wheel, attaches to a drill and away you go. Wont harm the paint either.

No I pay for my own housing out of my pay. If you live in government housing your pay is alot different and less.

Well I am about to get out of the Marines, I have almost been in for five years so my contact is up soon

What you need to do is heat up the emblem so the adhesive softens up and then use a narrow putty knife or a razor blade. I took all the emblems off my Talon and it did it without scratching the paint but it did leave an outline where the emblem was. Just use a car polish and polish that area really good and it removes any trace lines.

wait, you've been in the military for 5 years, and only get paid around 35k a year? The gov't really underpays...

I would not use anything other than double-sided 3M tape to put an emblem on my car (as previously suggested), and I would also stay far away from any kind of glue. Just my :2cents:

(Nice looking Cobra by the way!)

Damn Thor, how much you get paid an hour, and how old are you...When I was 16/17 ( I am 18 now) I was getting paid way more than $8K a year (shit I didnt work at mcdonalds)...

Look around for a better job, Micky D's is a waste of your time! Unless you like to flip burgers, lol, j/k

I'm making $8.20/hour but because of school and extracurricular activities I only work weekends. I made 11k my sophomore year and 10k my junior year before McDonalds started to suck, now I just work there because I cant find a job where I would make near that much money. I almost got hired at a local shop 35 hours a week for like $12/hour for an apprentice mechanic at the beginning of August, but because I had to go back to school, I couldnt take it. Hopefully I can get a job doing construction or working at a shop this summer to make some money before I leave for college.

$8.20 is not bad at all for MD, too bad you cant work more hours, I cant get enough these days! You should have took that $12 an hour job!

What happened to the GSX you were supposed to get??

Thor06
12-13-2005, 05:42 PM
Yeah, I would have had to drop out to get that $12 job, it was from 7-2 M-F.

Well, my dad kinda shot it down, atleast for winter. I'm going to have to do some traveling soon and he didnt want me to break down during the winter (my 01 Cavalier with 31k miles is about as reliable as it gets). And he just plain doesnt like imports. Its alright though, the guy that was selling it had the tranny go out on him, so parents support or not I couldnt have gotten it. So for now I am on the hunt for a GSX, but I probably wont have one until like March or April when it starts warming up.

I would make more.

But I got in trouble. Thus loss of rank, demotion. loss of pay.

Normally after five years you make closer to 50k.

Also you have to understand 35k is about what I take home in my pocket a month. We don't get benefits or anything deducted from our check. So it's good money really.

Thor what I do in the Marine Corps?

I teach people how to shoot rifles and pistols. I work on a range where we do live fire excercises all the time. It's very. . . repetative, but most people think it's cool because it's lots of guns.

I'm not sure about putting the emblem back on (you might check a body shop and ask too see if you could get oem glue or something, because that is what these are stuck on with).

To remove the Ford logo though, take a putty knife and seal off the tip with a strip of duct tape (helps prtect the paint). Take a heat gun (you could use a hair dryer I guess...) and heat up the logo to soften the adhesive. Work your "spatula" under the logo until it comes off. Keep heating and scaping ate the excess glue until most of it is off. Next, take bug and tar remover (or a similar product, like Goo-gone) and clean the remaining adhesive off. Wipe it down with a dry cloth, and then it's a good idea to wax so that the paint seals again.

Hope this helps...

Hey BTW, do ya think you could still get me some pictures for the model? It's getting close the winter break so I'll have some time to build... Thanks...
