$4200 brakes! Please advise

New to forum and not a car person, so I need advice.

Drive car two days ago, all is well. Brake/ABS/TCS lights all come on at once.

Take to shop next day and they tell me ABS is out and so is Master Cyl. Also, rear-wheel cyl. leaking. Total cost to replace, $1200. Sickening, but I can manage.

I get a call today. Master Cyl, Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Assy, ABS Motor, TCS Motor, Elec. T.C.S. Body, Rear Wheel Cyl x 2, Bleed/Flush. Total is now $4200!

I had it towed to dealer, but this guy is good and trustworthy, so I doubt i get a different price or anything, but i'm praying that i do.

So, my question is, how the hell can all of that go bad at one time???

Is this legit? In your opinion(s).

At this point, i'm in trouble if it's $4200. I'm hoping there's a way to have ABS and no TCS or something like that, because I can't afford to get it fixed.

Please advise or, if nothing else, give an opinion if you've seen anything like this before.

This is a shotgun diagnosis, no way this happens unless the fluid was contaminated in some way. If someone put p/s fluid in the system by mistake ( seen this happen), you could damage the mc and the abs trac unit, but normally it wouldn't get any further in the system. Your guy may be honest but he was in over his head and to " get rid of you" it seems like he threw this ridiculous number at you. Keep us posted what happens at the dealer. What work and charges were actually generated at your shop?

Maxwedge is right. Take the car somewhere else and get it looked at. This guy is trying to make his entire budget on one repair or like max said he wants you to go somewhere else.

I'll do it for 4199. :) Did you end up taking it elsewhere and what did they say?

What year is the van? If its like a 00 or older you can buy another van!!!
