Im currently looking at a 99 ford ranger sport fully loaded, it has 73k on it and the guy is asking $8800, i was wondering if someone could tell me what problems these usually have and if this is a decent buy or not thanks in advance. . .

Not sure about the price, anything in that price range is out of mine. :) If it's a 3.0L V6, check the oil pan gasket at the front seal. They're known to 'work' themselves out and cause an oil leak. If it's from a business, it's critical that you check this. They will hose you.

If it's a 4.0L SOHC, some of these engines are known to have a rattle somewhere in the timing chain assembly. There's a TSB about it now. Some people that have had them fixed state the rattle comes back, but have had no negative effects from it.

Overall, they're good trucks.

I own a 99 4.0L 4x4 & purchased it for 11k- had 7k miles on it.

It now has 83k. Good little truck. Problems to look for:

Brakes, fuel lines, bushings, tires, sparkplugs + wires. O2 sensors" both before & after the cat." There is a slight ping, but that's the crap gas I put in it a week ago.

As for the pricing, that depends on what modifications the truck has had & HOW OFTEN the fuel filter, oil filter, air filter and along with how often the truck had radiator & oil changes?? The paint job & undercarriage rust could reflect the price as well.
