My ignition seems to be locked. I tried turning the wheeel and moving the shift lever. I also tried different keys. The key won't turn at all in the ignition. This is a 1997 auotmatic Corolla. No problems like this before.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

Does it have a steering wheel lock? Is the wheel turned and locked? Sometimes that happens to my Corolla...you have to turn the wheel hard against the "lock", hold it there, and then turn the key.

you might have to replace the whole ignition cylinder...its pretty easy to get out...you might have a little bit of problem on the weird tapered bolts though...easiest way that i found was to get the biggest drill bit my drill could hold and lean it up against the bolt and back it out...you might wanna buy you ignition cylinder though at a junk yard...toyota charges way too much...

the key can come out and it can move a little bit, jsut enought that the steering wheel lock comes off. im pretty sure it s the ignition cylinder. im not familiar with these toyotas so i was trying to be sure it was, has anyone changed one of these before, is it hard???

not hard...just remove the paneling and undo the wires...the only hard part is the tapered bolts with no thread or notches to grab on to...so i recommend you take a drill and its largest size bit and back out the nut that way...oh and to get out the cylinder you have to put the key to the acc position...

you might have to replace the whole assembly then...and then your have to use two different keys...one for door and one for ignition

thats what i thought that i might hav e to do, i got a whole ignition cylinder/switch off of ebay, so i think ill just put the whole thing in as a whole and just use two keys, its really nto that big of a deal. i hope this ones not too bad to switch out, some can be, it look pretty straight forward though
