i have a 1970 nova with air shocks. i was wondering what is the widest tire i can get withough any mods to the body. Im nto sure but i was told i have a 4:10 rearend by few people who drove it they jsut said what is what it felt like. it has a 355 no dyno yet but few mechanics who have helped me rebuild it estimated it at 370-420 hp. jsut want to get a wheel that will stick to the ground. not sure what i have now i am in iraq and im just looking for things i can buy for when i get home. its not horrible right now but i can burn through 1st and almsot all of second if i put it to the floor. jsut seeking something i can get on it with and have it find a catching point :).

In general 15x8 with a 5 inch back space. There is some history on this site regarding this. One is at

If you seach for your questions within the nova forum, often you will find answers. I might also suggest traction bars, ladder bars, different shocks, such as some 90/10's to keep the back in planted. Good luck on keeping it on the ground, and get home from Iraq safely!

you can get a lot of extra space by moving the shocks to the inside of the leaf. I have not done it myself, but i have heard its a pretty easy mod. definately need son traction bars though. my 71 only has around 260 hp and i needed them so its a safe bet you will need some extra traction.

Been there, done this.
15X8 with 5.5 inches of backspacing. Gonna have to ditch the air shocks though because they are too fat. I run a 26x10X15 drag slick on my Nova with this setup, and no modifications at all.
