Well, sense we have such a wide array of people here in AF, I thought I'd get this thread started. Everyone has their own personal twist on launching. How do you?

Be sure to tell about the car your launching too as my method for launching would sound stupid if you tried it on a RWD N/A car :D

Any how, this is me in AWD Turbocharged with a doubleplate clutch and (I don't know what brand) replaced trans gears.

Handbrake about half way up.
Rev to 5,000~
When first yellow comes on let clutch out just untill it tenses the drivetrain and boost starts commin on.
After last yellow, drop handbreak, let clutch almost all the way out.
Green, maintain 5,500rpm~ and slip clutch as needed for wheelspin.

As for things with stock clutches and gearboxes...

Rev 3,500
Last yellow, drop clutch almost all the way.
Once out of wheelspin range, clutch out and gas to the floor:rolleyes:

I still and will for a long time have an automatic. I drop it to low, wait for the yellow, ease off the brake untill I feel the car lean forward, when it hits green I start gasing it, not rompin on it till I hit 1.5g rpm. Then I just mash it and take it to just below the redline, and drop it to drive.

I have a N/A Automatic RWD car.

On HOT! ET Streets:

Leave car in DRIVE. Foot on brake as hard as possible. Brake torque to 3500RPM (can go up to 4400) and hold. Last yellow, release brake, mash gas to the floor.

On HOT! Nitto Drag Radials:

Leave car in DRIVE. Foot on brake as hard as possible. Brake torque to 1100-1500 (track depending) and hold. Last yellow, release brake, roll onto throttle. Full throttle by 60' mark. Possibly a SLIGHT amount of wheelspin.

Basic launch strategy, keep my foot the hell away from the gas pedal!

I dunno about leaving an automatic in drive, they shift too early when you do that even though you can rev it higher. I have been considering actually testing that out to see if it is faster then what I do though.

What I do with my Xtreme(automatic) is drop it to 1st, press on brake hard, and rev to 1500. It can go up to 1700 before the tires start chirping and the truck literally moves foward at a crawl, but 1500 rpm seems to launch it foward quicker. When I'm ready to go, let go of brake, after it lifts up a bit I floor it. Redline, shift to 2nd, 3rd, Drive.

My automatic shifts right where I want it, EVERYTIME.
I had it shifting at 7200rpm for a while, but the stock bottom end doesnt like revving that high for too long and I didn't want to risk blowing it up.
So, now I've got my shift points changed to shift at 6800rpm.

My transmission is far from stock. All internal pieces have been replaced by billet parts. All new seals and gaskets, etc etc. Computer programming was done on the dyno and at the track for best performance.

i just wish i had a car that was worthy of dragging... my little s**tbox doesnt go anywhere... but this is the method i use when i'm driving something with a little power

bring the car up till about 4000rpm, when the last yellow comes up bring it to the start of the friction point feel the car start to launch, then on green clutch almost up, not all the way as to not get wheelspin, then your off... then wait till its out of wheelspin range then clutch all the way out

66 Barracuda 318/727 Torkflight.

Roll into the water box, 2nd gear, Flip the brake Bias valve to front brakes only, flip on the secondary electric fan, studder box on to hold RPM back to 5000, hard on the brakes, mash the throttle, rpm to 4500, shift to high gear and hold until the motor starts to pull down...release the brake and roll out of the box.

Clean motor and switch over to launch rpm of 3600 on the studder box...stage...mash the throttle to the floor...last yellow..release the brake.. pull the front wheels off the ground....shift at 6200 and crank off an 12.12 to 12.15 with a season average of .521 lights.

Tires...10x29 Goodyears

Next year...11.80's:D
