Imported vs Domestic

First of all, I'm not trying to start a flame war. Me and my friend for our senior speech class have to debate over the topic "Americans should buy imported cars before Domestic cars" Of course, we took the import side, and we have some topics for debate such as, 1. depreciation 2. hybrids and so on. We're just wondering if any of you can give your opinions with facts that we might be able to use in our debate which will happen sometime next week. Thanks guys

Well, just my $.02 worth, you might consider some things such as parts content, final assembly location etc. Many of the "import" cars are assembled here in the states. Honda has a plant here, so does Toyota. The new Sonata is being made in Hyundai's Alabama plant and the next-gen Santa Fe will be also. People are usually still supporting the U.S. economy when they buy imports.

Yeah I actually live in Alabama not too far from the Honda Plant we have here. As peachferrari said, a lot of import cars are actually manufactured in the States. In Alabama, we have a Honda Plant, Hyundai Plant, and a Toyota Plant (only makes engines though). Imports also have better warranty, and better life span.

Parts for a domestic car are usually a bit cheaper. Domestics don't hold value as well as imports though.

so is nissan, actualy lexus and scion are legaly domesic cars- even though there owned by toyota. so you can state how the import market is starting to own the domestics. newer imports are engineered better than most domestics, better aftermarket, lift-lowering kits-performance exc. i will take both, bc im not picky. as long as it is a vheicle and there is aftermarket to do to it. i dont care! actualy i did a simular thing like this last year in school for our paper. i compared the tib to the srt-4, the gto to the celica (i believe) and the skyline to the ford GT.
