Hey, as you know I'm currently working on a Sauber C9, and I need to know what was the diffrence between the three C9s at the '89 LeMans (#61,62,63) besides the mirrors, tailight panels, and number decals

This question is probably one of those that could be easily answered if someone would take the time to answer but, just by researching pics should give you a good idea of the differences. . .
I only know very little about the #63 car from modeling it so, I can't help ya out with the others. . .
However, if you look for such items such as back issues of IPMS mag's and such I know there have been some extensive articles on all of the cars. . .
Good luck with your build, bud!

I'm also building the C9 and the info and pics I've got are very few and very small, most of them of models and one of them of good enough quality to show any differences. Try to get the pfd from Huddo, it is by far the best and most complete of all the info you can get....

I think you have the C9's confused with another LM Mercedes.

there are a few that are not from the C9 but do help too, especially the diffs btwen the 61-62-63... like the red crossmember on the 63 car.....
And the ones that flipped were the CLK-GTR's of 1999. Now there are no excusses... gotta start building mine.....

Wow, you're sharp!
The reason for the various colors on the mirrors was so that the pit crews could easily identify which car was coming down pit road from the front, a technique which has become quite common (look at F1 cars to see it utilized too).
The other differences mentioned are 'under the skin' as it were, not physical exterior differences.
Research is your friend.

actually, what i remember was the absurdity of the flip because the driver had already flipped twice before.
for some reason, he (they?) figured it'd be ok the third time.

There was a bit more to it than that. From memory (known to be sketchy occasionally ) when the first flip happened in practice it was viewed as a freak situation. Similar things have happened to sportscars before. But then it happened again, still in practice. This made it obvious it was a problem with the car as nobody else was flying. Much debate ensued with the expectation being Mercedes would pull out of the event. In the end they decided to fit a full wet, high downforce setup at the front with extra wings, believing that aughta make it stick. However come race day it happened again in the first couple of hours. Immediate withdrawal followed.

If we're going to be really accurate about this the flippers were the '99 Mercedes CLRs. The CLK-GTRs were the '97-'98 cars that ran at Le Mans in '98.
I have a fantastic volume entirelly in German and produced by Sauber after they won Le Mans. If I can find it I'll happily scan any pictures that might be of use to you. At the moment I've miss-placed the book though...

that'd be awesome because there aren't that many pics of cars like the Sauber C9 and yea t'was the CLRs that flipped, the CLK-GTR ran at LeMans before. The CLR was just like a new, refined, and supposedly better version of it
