Service Traction System & power door question

Hi

1) Another Venture Gremlin
This morning I got a "Service Traction System".
I stopped and started the engine and the message went off.
What is this new Venture gremlin ?

2) Power door maintenance.
Nothing in the owner and Haynes manual. Do you know if there is something to do. (the door works fine actually)

#1 - You need to service the traction control system. Similar to the engine, there are a variety of trouble codes that can pinpoint where a fault was detected. It could be a lose connection somewhere, a failed speed sensor, etc. Just from what you've posted (and probably all that you know) really doesn't narrow it down much.

#2 - Keep the contact pins and pads in the door frame clean and free of corrosion. Also keep any sliding components lubricated as needed. Other then that, there really isn't anything to do with it. From a operation perspective, I've learned to let the door do all the work. Try not to stop it midway if possible and don't open/close it rapidly. Let it open all the way.

#1 I got 6 month ago an ABS light. I checked both L&R wiring connected to the wheel clean it and spray WD40. The light went off. I gonna crawl again under my Van this week-end.
#2 What are you use to lubricate the sliding components ? Grease ? oil ? WD40 ? Silicone ?

#2 What are you use to lubricate the sliding components ? Grease ? oil ? WD40 ? Silicone ?Some light grease. You can also coat the rubber seals in silicone. This will help prevent cold weather freezing of the seals if they get wet.

I got a service traction system light. But it only comes on when its 45 degrees and under at night. It just started last week. It was in the 50's today and I had nothing at all. Do you think this is covered on my extended warrenty?

You'd have to check, but I would imagine it could be. The TCS isn't a wear-related item.

I had the same problem last winter, only mine would go on after the night temps were below zero. We had a stretch of sub zero weather, and the light would come on upon starting the van, but as I reached my destination,about 8 miles away, the light would go off. The problem disappeared once the temps warmed back up. The sensors probably don't like very cold temperatures :headshake . I also use lithium grease on the sliding track on my side door. The can has a "small straw tip" that allows me to go the length of the track to lubricate it. It can be a messy job, as it is hard to access some areas, so keep a rag handy to wipe up any excess grease/lubricant. It is also a good time to coat your rubber door seals with WD-40 or Pam cooking spray, or even a light coating of petroleum jelly to prevent your doors from freezing shut in the cold weather.

Oily sprays or substances will just attact dirt. Once the silicone spray dries, it won't attract dirt but will still prevent sticking (think like teflon)

I have multiple problems similar to yours. All my warning lights go on. ie:Check traction system, Trax, brake, abs, The dealer said it was needing a new battery. Only $200. I put one in myself, and the problem still exists. Sometimes only certain ones come on. What is a master switch, someone told me it could be that. The anitl lock brakes are definitely not working as I tried them. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure where I posted this (Montana or Venture forum), but I had a similar problem with my 2003 Montana. On mine, it was covered by the 3yr/36K warranty.

The right rear ABS speed sensor was bad (not sure of the fault mode), and because it an integral part of the bearing hub unit, the whole thing was replaced.

The symptoms were that first thing in the morning when I would start the car (usually on a cold morning), the lights would come on (Traction/ABS/Service Traction) and the traction control would be deactivated. If I pulled out of the garage, shut it off and restarted the car, the lights would go out.

You might first check to make sure that the electrical connection to the ABS sensors at each wheel are not corroded. If they look okay, you'll want to have the codes pulled from the computer. They might be proprietary codes, so your local Autozone may not be able to read them......good luck, Glen
