Can I get my heavy mustang to handle like a sports car instead of a tank?

yop, just gonna take some money though. strut bar for front and back, 5 link rear suspension mod, lower a lil with stiffer springs, panhard bar, control arms, sway bars, subframe connectors.
theres lots of things you can do, theres also trying to do some weight reduction, you can even buy lighter k members thatll lengthen the wheelbase some so you get better front-rear weight distribution. lower profile tires are also better for handling, but worse for launching.

You can't really get sports car handling out a Mustang but with time and money they can handle a lot better than most people think. Thanks to the Mustang's weight, poor weight distribution, and suspension design in general they will never be able to out corner cars like Vettes or S2000 without an extensive amount of work. True sports cars like the S2000 are built with handling in mind while with the Mustang handling is more of an after thought.
If you are serious about making your car handle the best place to start is at Maximum Motorsports. Companies like Steeda are just poor imitations of Maximum Motorsports.

Things like springs, shocks, struts, full subframes (Kenny Brown xtreem matrix), strut tower brace, and Caster / Camber Plates will help out a hell of a lot but there is just so much that needs to be done I don’t have time to list it all.
If you do go to a 5 link there is no need for a panhard bar and vice versa.
Are you looking at fixing up the 1994?

Yes, I want to get into some sort of road racing. I'm not sure if the Mustang is still the way to go. I got it because I liked muscle but my intrests have changed. I still love the sound of the V8. Can't stand the fart cans. I love playing video games of road racing GT4, need for speed and want to do it for real. The only mustang the handle worth a crap is the 2000 Cobra R. Granted it is a game but they usually simulate it quite well.
Thanks,
Tom

In case you didn't know, the Mustang isn't a sports car nor is it marketed like that. It is a pony car and it has four seats unlike an S2000. The new Mustang GT is arguably the coolest/fastest coupe/convertible for under $30,000 available in North America today.
Heck, even the Europeans like the new Mustang GT.

Well, I agree also. I didn't buy it to take on S2000's, I bought it to drive a v8 muscle car because I thought they are cool.
Striaght line performance is very important to me so an S2000 wouldn't do it for me. The only other car on the 30,000 dollar range that I would even think about is the 350Z. I like it but may be a little spendy(32000+) with less power.
The 05 mustang sounds awesome in NFS Most Wanted. Can't wait for it to be unlocked.
Peace,
Tom

What do you think I don't know that? Look at my sig that's my car and me in the drivers seat. The 05s do handle better than the last gen live axle however they don't handle better than the 01 and 99 IRS. I wasn't the one that brought up sports car handling and Mutang in the same sentence I was just answering the flowing question.

Really seen the Top Gear review of it? They give the car the thumbs up but not by much in fact Clarkson even says its "it's not a very good car". Even when they reviewed it they had to take it out on the longest straight flat road they could find.
Honestly NIN881 if you want to get in to Road Racing and still have an American V8 get rid of the Mustang and get a used Vette. Without major work the Mustang will get killed in the corners by cars like the Miata, the Evo, and even a stock S2000 will kill a modified 99/01 Cobra around the track and those are the best handling Mustangs outside of the last R. The 350Z can be a fast car around the track when they are modified but they do have a ton of body roll.
