I'm hoping someone from this forum can save me from buying a repair manual. My wife has a 1997 Civic hatchback. It's been a great car, but the speakers have started cutting out. If we hit a bump they come back on momentarily, then cut out again. I suspect the connection to the stereo. For the life of me I can't figure out how the dash comes apart to get the stereo out. I'm sure it's somethin simple, but I thought I'd ask before I go pulling trim off and end up breaking some small hidden clip or something.

Can anyone give me directions, or point me to a link showing how to remove the stereo on a 97 Civic?

Thanks,

well my recommendation is to buy a Helm's manuel straight up dude, you will need it in the long run, mine as well by it now. They are the number one thing you need for your car.

I can tell you how to do it.

there are screws that hold the plastic panel by the lighter, remove those screws, unplug the lighter and remove that panel. pull out the coin holder next to the head unit. Get under the dash with a flash light and look up where you removed the panel, there will be screws that hold the head unit in from under neath. Get a long phillips head screwdriver and remove those screws. You now should be able to remove it and check the connections.
