Aight, I took my friend's advice on this, just because it sounded good and sounds logical, but I still gotta ask cause I start thinking about it too much lol.
Does shifting, not downshifting, at 2,000 RPMs as opposed to 2500 or 3,000 (if ya wanna show off), save gas? Less strain on the engine means less gas used?

yes it will
3 major things effect gas milelage
speed
rpm
throttle
lower the speed the better gas mielage, wind resistance doubles from 40 mph to 60 mph, and so forth only gets stornger making you get worse mielage
the less amount of rpms the more gas mielage, think about it, fiering 4000 times per minut is wasting alot mroe gas than 2000 times a minut
the more your on the throttle the more gas your wasting, throttle goes hand in hand with speed, the faster you go the more throttle required and the more wind resistnace there is, the more resistnace the more throttle youll need to go faster

But you do not want to lug the engine either, that wastes gas and it hard on it. with that older celica it should be aliright, but with my GT I can't shift too soon cuz below 2k I lug sometimes so i have to be careful.

yea as long as it dosent seem like it wants to die then its fine, otherwise ull need to be in a lower gear or go faster
