Help finding Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Some 20-odd years ago, my brothers had a model kit of a Camaro. I remember seeing the box around the house with the car partially built (pretty badly, I might add :)) in it. Even before I started this hobby, that box disappeared and was never seen again...
I would love to build that car and give it as a present to my brothers. The problem is that I don't know anything about the kit itself..I don't remember the brand or the year of the kit..I also don't know anything about Camaros, but I do remember that it was similar to the '84 Camaro.
http://www.bruceleibowitz.net/images/84camaro.jpg
I also remember that it was a Z28 and the car on the box art was yellow with the american flag (stars and stripes).
I know this is a long shot, but I would really like to find the details on this kit. If anyone remembers/knows/has more info, please let me know!
Thank you.

we'll, being a big F-body Camaro fan I think I can help your, AMT, MPC, ARII, and Revell/monogram produced F-body (82-92 Camaro),
The worst is the ARII kit. body has proportions. chassis is bad. looks like it was modified for a motorized engine. interiors not bad but there are better choices out there
AMT reissued there 82 Camaro about 4 years ago. not a bad kit. has optional SCCA parts and interior. it is an accurate kit. but lacks in detail in some area's. like the tailights.
Revell/Monogram made a smap 83 Camaro kit. not a bad kit, was just reissued under the motorworks name. and you can find it at Wal-Mart for about $8, full detail, but some of the details are soft.
The MPC version may be the one your thinking of. by far the best 1:25 scale Camaro out there. and they updated it all the way to 1992. which none of the other manufactuers did. also the most expensive at about 30-50 dollors for a mint kit.
now, by far the best F-body Camaro in any scale is the Monograms 1/8 scale monster. by far the best Camaro that was replicated in scale, but HUGE. this suckers 2 1/2- 3 feet long. and usually can fetch about $120 on EBAY.
as for the kit you looking for. it sounds like the Revell Ultra Z kit. It the only Camaro kit I can recall that there's a yellow car on the box.

The Wal-Mart by me has a mid 80's Camaro. It is not the yellow one as you describe, it is red. I believe it is 1:25 scale. Check out this link. The Camaro is very similar to it. It is the very last one in the third row.

Petter:
Here are two of the 1/8 `82 Camaro kits on Ebay. These are the ones Gasman is talking about:
1/8 Camaro Z28 (http://cgi.ebay.com/MONOGRAM-1982-CHEVY-CAMARO-Z-28-INDY-PACE-MODEL-CAR-82_W0QQitemZ6021076619QQcategoryZ2585QQssPageNameZ WDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

I have the "IROC-Z" version of this kit, and having had a 1:1 IROC-Z, I can say the proportions are very accurate, and looks like a great kit.
Also, there is a kit at a local hobby store that looks exactly like the picture you have there. It is even the exact colors, stripes and all. It was an old annual release from Revell. The box was open though. If you want, I can see if they have it still. You wouldnt happen to be close to PA, would you?

Thank you all for your answers!
Unfortunately, the kit I'm after is none of those in the links you provided. Even eBay hasn't been of any help :(
Hawk, I'm from Portugal..so PA is quite a journey :) The picture I posted is a random one found on Google just to say that the kit is of that car. The kit in you LHS is just a coincidence, probably :)
I know this is really hard..Probably the kit has been reissued with a different box/company..
I remember the kit was molded in yellow plastic and I think the car itself was a Targa (just like a 300ZX).
I've searched all over Google, but have come to no avail :(
Thanks again,
Pedro.

Wow. You definitely have my interest. I have been building f-bodies (Camaros and Firebirds) since `82. This sounds like a kit I would have picked up, or would have atleast caught my attention. Did the car look stock, or was it a racing car? The flag was on this car, or was it just part of the box art?
The only one that comes to mind is the Monogram Z/28 kit that was molded in yellow with t-tops and had the old Monogram red, white, and blue box art. But that was a 2nd gen Camaro, unlike the 3rd gen posted above. Are you sure it was that body style?

Now that you ask, I'm not really sure if the flag was on the box or on the car itself. But it was that body style (3rd generation, you say?) and it had stripes. That is for sure :)
I have searched t-top camaro on google and ebay and found nothing. Even if it was reissued, I'm sure that the old box would be "foundable" on google ?

Somewhere along the line MPC made a mid-late 80's annual kit of the Camaro Z28 that had T tops and was molded in yellow. Common as dirt back then, but I guess they're not easy to find now.

BINGO!
I've found it on ebay! Thanks for the tip, ZoomZoom! Searching for "mpc camaro" on google pointed me to:

This is exactly what I'm looking for!

Too bad the auction has ended in November. But now I have all the details about it :)
Thank you all for the help!
Many, many cheers,
Pedro.
