Weird Electrical problem with brake/signal lights

I have a weird electrical problem going on with my jetta and all help and opinion would be very appreciated.
When I brake, the emergency 4way signals are on. They don't flash, they are just on solid the same way as if they were the brakes. At times like this, my left and right signals don't work and I have to release the brakes for them to work again. After releasing the brakes, the signal will flash normally again, no emergency light.
Sometimes, it gets a little more complicated. When I signal to a direction (regardless if I use the brake or not) the rear signal will point to the opposite direction I originally signaled, and while I signal, the brake lights will singal too. Also it signals way faster. [When I use the brakes, again no more signal, not even the weird brake-signal, just solid 4way emergancy signal. Then I release the brake, and I get the christmas tree effect on the signals again]. This part doesn't happen every time, sometimes it signals normally in the right direction however, the 4way flashers with the brakes are always an issue.
I hope and don't think its a hard thing to fix, so please let me know how to and what to check/replace. Thank you very much, ahead

Thanks

I actually figured out the problem and it was very simple. The rear left black circuit board where the signal and brake bulbs sit in the sockets needed replacement because it burnt out. I don't know if it was the wrong bulb that was put in, or an electrical short in the wire, but it burnt and the entire module had to be replaced. Note: I replaced like 3 inches of the wire that comes out of this circuit board thingy as well with the connectors that plug into it. Those were burned too. Now yours is not necessarily the left one so make sure you check it and don't buy a new one:nono: ! Go to a used part shop or junk yard or they rip you off!!!! I bought mine for $15 which included the board, the two connectors and the wire, and I put it in myself no problem because the connectors plug right in no repair. Plus a little black tape for the wire and that's it. If you want a new part it costs 10 times more! Just in case make sure the bulbs are the right one for the brakes/signal, even if thats not the reason.
Hope I could help! I sold the piece of junk jetta so no more headache for me. God, I had so much hope in this car and just disappointment after disappointment:disappoin . And I sold it for much less I wanted to get from it...of course she was able to get another $1000 off of me before selling...:evillol: wasn't she nice? It made me cry on a monthly basis literally. I guess i was just unlucky or maybe the previous owner didn't take care of it. He was a mechanic.......
Good luck and let me know if I didn't explain it well.
Thanks

OHHHH AND ONE MORE THING! My problem was even weirder when I had the headlight on! If it was off then at least the signals worked and it pointed in the right direction although when i pushed the brake pedal they stopped working!

Thanks for the advise. The electrical gremlin disappeared as soon as I went to locate the problem. It has since reoccured. I replaced everything you suggested and it has cured the problem .
Thanks for your input.

Jettas that are made in Mexico have a lot of electrical problems that many times are ones we wouldn't even think of. Thats why i got one without the power windows lol. Im just glad that I was able to help with one that was quite annoying:)
