timing belt guides/idlers on 1996 contur 2.0 liter

My wife bought a 1996 ford contour with a 2.0 liter engine. The other evening she was driving home and the belt tensioner failed. I already purchased a timing belt kit and a chilton manuel. I stripped it down and have found that the torqz heads of the guide/idlers have been buggered up. I can find no information in the books on this, does anyone have information? I do not know if they are left hand or right hand threads, or what the torque value is. Any information would be appreciated as the sooner her car is running the sooner i get my truck back. Thanks in advance. [email protected]

I assume your talking about the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley underneath the left camshaft sprocket. My service manual says there is only one retaining bolt. It uses normal threads and requires 8-11 Nm (71-97 lb-in). If that isnt the part, let me know. Ive got service manual that pretty much has everything.

I am talking about the two guide/idlers above the crankshaft pulley. The left one is bigger than the right one.

Ok, if im looking at this correctly, the water pump pulley fits over the larger left guide and the bottom right bolt of the four bolts holds in the guide. It looks like that one bolt requires 10-14 N*m (89-124 lb*in). The right guide looks like its held in by two bolts from lower timing belt cover where the crankshaft pulley is. Those require 6-8 N*m (53-71 lb*in). Is this correct?

The ones that I am talking about are part of the timing belt system. They are located above the crankshaft belt gear. if you draw a straight line between the center of the crankshaft and the camshaft they are about 6 inches above the crank. They sit across from each other, with the timing belt riding between them. They right side one is just down from the belt tensioner. They are torqz head . They are close to the water pump. I can clearly see one guide pulley thats on the left. According to you, the other one is directly to the right of it where the waterpump is at. Is this correct?

post 98 belts go right down the middle AFAIK, they aren't routed like the picture you showed, mines routed like that and mines a pre 98.

edit, you have a 96,

i don't even know what your're talking about.. and ive taken off/messed with mine 3 times.

The guides you have marked in red are correct.

The guides you have marked in red are correct.

ok, my second set of torque specifications were correct. Refer to those.
