Looking at an '06 GP

Hey everyone, I'm new to the Pontiac forums. A while back I read a few racing stories authored by Jeff, the owner of the 11 second GTP. Wow. Anyway, I took a keen interest in the cars. I am getting married in May and my fiancee has an '04 Sunfire, I have a '93 3000GT VR4. We want to trade both and get into one higher car payment instead of two lower ones. We have looked at cars like a Mazda6 GT - leather, ground effects... - (both 4 cyl and 6 cyl). I checked with Pontiac the other day and stopped back in today, and they seem ready to give what we owe on the Sunfire and have someone interested in the VR4. That would be much more than anywhere else would give for our cars, so we are looking at the '06 GT as well as the '06 GXP. Any thoughts on whether the price difference would justify the GXP and can anyone give some opinions on reliability/performance of either or both cars? Also, does anyone have gas mileage data for either? Additionally, any mods available yet or soon for the 5.3? I realize I have to give up my two door, standard, but to go to a four door, automatic with 303hp and 323 ft/lb. of torque stock intrigues me greatly. Any thoughts or opinions about the cars are muchly appreciated.

Performance wise, you can't beat the GXP vs GT. The newer S/C'd ones can be modified like I did my 97 & 99 so that they are faster, but doing so can be a PIA on these models....KR is a problem to deal with. Most GXP's are running mid to high 13's to low 14's with some still running low 14's since the key is to shut off TC/Stabilitrak and launch well + shift manually holding 2nd gear....no different than the GTP's. The torque management system is the only thing holding us from going much stronger....depends on the track....if it's prepped very well, it may kick in. Best times on a handful are 13.6-13.7's.
Overall, stocker's, the GXP is the choice to go with. You get more features/options too. Reliability wise, both are about the same. I never had any issues with my GTP's and the 5.3l LS4 is bulletproof too. Been very good. Check out clubgp.com for more info too.

mpg wise you'll get tons of user actualities....my real world in the city only driving and heavy foot.....DIC has been at 13-14mpg. On the highway at 72mph I can cruise and with DOD active get 26-28mpg.....overall real world 2-4 trip gets me about 23-24mpg overall average though.
You'll love it.
