Aux input

I want to run my sat. radio directly into the radio - i'm tired of the tape adapter. I've looked online to get an adapter to give me rca inputs for the radio, but it's very confusing. I have an 01 intrigue gls (tape and cd combo with onstar), so it still uses gm's oldstyle radios w/o rds (non-class2). Most of the adapters I found said that the cd changer wire to the trunk needed to be in the car. That's where they said they connect. These are ten pin adapters. There are 9-pin adapters which go in the head unit, but the intrigue wasn't on the compatibility list. Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the harnesses on the back of the radio? Would it be possible to just tap into the wires and create my own "dummy load" for a changer so it detects it as an input? If my car is prewired with the trunk cable, where would it be?

i dont know what to tell you, but id rip it all out, i have made myself a custom input jack on the drivers console, ill have to post picks, but its running through an Alpine HU.

although you probably dont want to rip out that stereo, i dont think onstar will work anymore.

Good Luck

Okay. I haven't told you guys my crazy idea and why i really want to find the aux input. First of all, don't call me crazy for wanting to put this much $ into an olds, because i already know i'm crazy. I'm going to relocate the radio, proably into the center console or something, then put a 7" touchscreen in its place, powered by a computer with a tv tuner, dvd burner, etc. with a media interface, such as windows media center. I might integrate the sat. radio in there too, so everything is streamlined. I want to run the sound from there into the radio, using an aux input, not a tape adapter. Here's the hardest part: I want to be able to control the factory radio (2 way - both control and display) using the computer, whether it be over the e&c bus with an obdII adapter or by somehow dissasembling the radio and hooking it up to the computer's parallel port and creating software. It would also be nice to use the wheel controls for the pc. I'll also use some form of vehicle diagnostics and control using the obdII port. Hopefully, I'll get to do this over my Christmas break.

that sounds like it would be pretty cool.

im not so sure on the 2way with the factory radio, as many of the in-car systems are meant to replace the stock radio.

good luck with it anyway, i know there are some choices when it comes to incar computers and if you need any computer help, i am a sys admin

I'm not getting an actual incar computer, but rather going to build by own with a power supply that's designed for 12v applications. The problem with this is, it won't be able to be that powerful, as it can handle a max of 90 watts, so P4's and athlons are out. I want to put a dvd burner (slot load) in the cubby in front of the shifter and use that as cd play, dvd player, etc. I still need to find out about the aux input on the factory radio so I can run the sound in. It would be even better if I could eliminate the factory HU altogether and run the pc directly to the bose amplifier. After adding a center channel, I would be able to do true 5.1 surround sound. That'd be sweet!
