Does anyone know what a repair manual says to replace the fuel pressure regulator on an 1988 grand prix? It looks like I have to take off the top of the engine. Is this a job for a professional or could I do it. Looking at the replacement regulator it doesn't look that tough but it is on a tough spot on the engine. Any suggestions??? Thanks

It would be quite helpful if you posted the engine size as engines vary in their design and location of the regulator.

The fuel pressure regulator on the 2.8 is located under the plenum and it will have to be removed. this is not difficult as there are 9 bolts that need to be removed. You really don't need to disconnect anything to get it off but you will need to remove the air duct from the air filter assembly and move the plenum out of the way. Bleed the fuel pressure from the system and then you will need to remove the fuel lines and the injectors from the head. I suggest that you label everything before removal especially the wiring to the injectors. Then after you have the fuel rail and injectors out you can remove and replace the fuel pressure regulator. Lubricate the o-rings on the injectors so that they slip easily back into the head.

If I were you I would purchase a chiltons manual for this particular car it will give a detailed description of the process and make it a lot easier for you. Amazon.com should have one for your car. Finally, if you can't find a Chiltons the Haynes is ok too.
